Had good experiences with them at a previous employer of mine. Good luck with everything.

The fact that he spent 40k, which could include the price of the car new, isn't an epic fail, the fact that he has only 350whp with 40k into the car is an epic fail.

Meh, modding is a hobby for most, not a return-on-investment kind of deal. Who here doesn't have their own pursuits where they spend money that 90% of the population would consider a waste. Measuring a project in terms of $/hp is a really one-dimensional way to look at it unless you're building a civic or something, where virtually every possible mod path has been beaten to death.

Also, no hating on proteges in my thread :D

Jay,

Make sure you triple check your measurements prior to assembly with those guys. Also check your block prior to picking it up to ensure it wasn't dropped.

AJ can contest to the amount of experience I've had with these guys. Granted it was a good 6 years ago, but after dropping and breaking chunks off two expensive blocks, I refuse to bring anything there again. I've also gotten stuff back underbored. Now again, this was 6+ years ago, but its always good practice to check stuff over.

True Jay, I see racing seats and a fresh paint job, and shit, I have over 40k into my car and have less then 300hp. But when your spending that type of money, specially if it's 40k just on mods, and doing that extensive of a rebuild on the engine, 350 would be an unexceptably low number in my book.

Thanks for the heads-up. The folks I talked to seemed plenty professional, but I guess you never know for sure.

That power figure is olllllldddd from an early stage of the build. If you read the thread all the way through, you'll see he's looking for 425wtq. He's going at it right.

That said, i wouldn't sink $40k into a Protege either. (Says the idiot building an Escort.)

Motor is back from machine shop. They only charged $25 for removing the oil squirters... money well spent :D

I don't have any kind of precision measuring equipment, but the main and cylinder bores are all where they should be, as close as I can measure with my digital caliper. All machined surfaces have been wiped down with oil and the motor is currently residing inside a plastic bag on my engine stand. I even went so far as to hang up a plastic sheet over my workspace to prevent any roof/ceiling debris from getting between me and a running car... heh

Nothing really to see right now except for a pile of parts. Once I get the block cleaned up and painted, I'll throw up a pic though :D

That reminds me... need to order engine paint kit. lol

Werd. We did have some good luck with them, but that was at the beginning when they where happy to get the new business. It seems like once they got comfortable they started fucking up and it never seemed to stop.

Just double check everything and hopefully you'll be just fine.

I've seen a few builds lately where people video the pickup, unpack, and initial measurement. It's a live diary that could have potential to hold up against a vendor when you're talking about something as costly as this. It can also help you in your build if you have video proof you did it right, then there is less of chance you'll tear down the motor for nothing if it does go bad.

You know, I was planning on just plastigaging the main bearings. But I'm thinking I might be better off just picking up an inexpensive micrometer and bore gauge set (the only ones we have at work are 0-1"). As much as it would be nice to be able to just trust a shop, I'm the paranoid type... especially when it comes to errors that may not show up for months.
