Jay, the trent to online gaming is as much for DRM as it is for multiplayer.
That was my point. Being online-only benefits the player in exactly zero ways, and can only worsen the experience. As far as wanting to play without internet? How about on a laptop anywhere except for at home or at a wifi hotspot?

The point is not that most people will have access to internet most of the time, it's that some people will not have access to the internet some of the time, and as a result cannot play with or without multiplayer functionality. For this potential loss of functionality, the player sees no benefit. The argument of "Oh quit whining and don't play if you don't have internet everywhere" is a poor and lazy one.

As a parallel argument, imagine if the movies you buy on BRD were just a key to stream from the studio's servers. Even if they added some kind of "social" functionality, and even if it was actually good functionality, would you really accept that you could only watch the movie you purchased when you had access to a broadband internet connection?

The point is for me, only playing online means it loses a LOT of the appeal for me. I like to play offline on a lot of things. I wouldn't mind it being portable. And let's face it, I don't play very well with others. I may or may not still play it, but OLO is a BIG detractor for me.

You can play 100% by yourself, you just need to have an active internet connection.

And as an additional comment - do your research, nobody is forcing anyone to buy the game. If you don't like the fact that it requires an internet connection then move on to something else, it's far from the first game to require it and I can promise it won't be the last.

I didn't even know they made games like that (no offline access) when you bought a physical game to load up. Now I know going forward to I'll have to just keep tabs on what's what, but when it comes ot Sim City, the reviews of the game are great from those who have been able to play. lol

I'll be on it later tonight if it's working.

lol, they applied a fix and it's working fairly well now, but they had to turn off some key features.

They've doubled the servers and I've had no trouble login since the first 48 hrs. Id say go for it.

Not to necro the DRM discussion... but that actually does surprise me. EA has done this with other games... IIRC Spore was the first big one. They didn't fire anyone during any of the other DRM shitfests.

Spore was a fucking mess- I got caught up in that. Too bad half of the game turned out to be stupid... I musta restarted a dozen times just because the first half was so much better.

BTW my name in game is DrPicklz, getting back on topic of playing the game - got mah first great works going in on one of the single player regions I'm doing - the global trade and specialization stuff is really a cool aspect. So far since they fixed some of the server issues (which just about every online game has had release week, get over it) It's been a really solid game, there are some pathing/transportation issues I'd like to see fixed/improved but overall I'm diggin it. They offered everyone that has a copy registered by the 25th a free game from a list of 6-7 different games, including Mass Effect 3, Dead Space 3, Battlefield 3, etc. so even better.
