If you go through and read Josh @ Cobb's post they get into this issue quite a bit. I think they have concluded that it is not because of the throttle plate closing, but simple that the turbo runs out of air. PT-P has some good examples of just how small the exhaust side is on this turbo.

Josh @ Cobbs post on M3F

omg stock turbo sucks!
If this is the case then the guys that have the big turbos already should have eliminated this problem. Let me try and dig up some dynos from big turboed MS3s.

yeah i have a friend who tunes in MI, and he said he looked at a ms3 and the turbo was "a toy" turbo haha. Told me he wanted to get me a bigger turbo and a tune to make some wicked numbers...i just um want to stay in warranty for now though.

Christian from Cobb @ M3F

New dyno chart posted from a sea-level dyno of a stock MS3 with the AP stock map loaded up.

I don't see a legend indicating which color line means what, maybe someone can interpret it.
Nothing impressive there either. The biggest gains come in the low to mid range and on the top end it looks like a 5hp increase at most. Power still cuts out early.

I thought you were referring to Chinese Democracy by GNR, that albums been in the works for a LONG ass time.

I have one theory: that everybody is so embarrased when they see little to no gains that they don't even want to post a dyno.

Same goes for the piasini. Nypest was supposed to post his dyno with it a long time ago and still nothing.

This is all getting very aggrivating to me.

Edit:has COBB sponsored all the mazda forums in order to supress the truth????

Edit: Where is Josh!? I thought that he has this AP right here on Mnmazdas.

I was set to buy it but now it looks like it adds as much performance as neon lights.... I'm now in a holding pattern.

Have to say that this does have the chacturistics of a conspiracy, especially with the reviews of people saying pretty much the same line that has come from Cobb for a while.

But at the same time, I know what a reputation means to a competitive business like this, and why would Cobb shot themselves in the foot by releasing a worthless mod, plus put the effort and money into trying to suppress that truth in an open society and market. Maybe those reviews are the same because it actually does what Cobb has been saying it does, which is smoothes the power band, moves it forward a tad, without compromising any build-in safety systems, while not give peak numbers; not at least with the very first tunes they release. I think to expect anything else from these tunes, even though it has been made clear what they will and won't do is nutty. I personally don't think much will be seen from the AP, peak numbers wise, till the PRO/RACE software is released, if they have as much control as they say they do, and every joe can make there own tune.

Patients are what is needed with this, and every other tuning solution. Nothing will be proven it the first hours and days, it will takes months to shake out the best tuning solution, specially with all the stuff I hear of in development.

Too bad this wasn't released in December, but it is what it is. I think its better off to wait till next spring to do a tune mod, and then we will really know what is what.

maybe then the real question is what supporting mod you need with the AP to make it worthwhile. Bigger turbo? Cams? HEader?
