Anyone here planning on playing the new SimCity? I pre-ordered it just waiting on UPS to bring me my copy. Figured if anyone here is going to play we could get setup in the same region and play online.

Yes, it's the one computer game I plan to pick up here very shortly actually. Can't wait! Dizzle is playing it as well.

Yeah there's varying opinions on the game, I watched a ton of videos and overall I really like a lot of the new stuff, it's a big change from the old games in many ways but overall I think it looks pretty fun, for $40, I'll give it a go (Amazon preorder price after $20 credit). I think the city size could be frustrating but being able to have multiple cities in the region helps with that, and they may increase that as time goes on.

Also that review / chat is funny...really you only have highschools yet you wonder why your nuclear plants are fucking up? Last I checked I think I'd want college graduates running my nuke plants lol.

i find cim city to be a fun game, easy to put time into, walk away from, and come back a year later and pick back up. It's not like a halo for me that I dont' pick back up for 5 years cause I bought the new one every year. The value for this type of game play is cheap in my book, even at full retail. it's also a game that kids tend to enjoy watching, which makes babysitting a breeze

I'M OFFENDED!
You are making this VERY tempting to me- I havent played sim city in almost 20 years.... and for some reason, building crap games is always fun to me. Can we nuke other towns?

I don't 'think' you can trigger a disaster on a city you do not control, however if you are running a polluted, or crime-ridden city, it can affect the neighboring cities. You have to invite or allow someone to build a city in your region though.

Side note: I'm installing the game as we speak!

Forget this new SimCity crap. I just discovered that SimCity 2000 runs fine on Windows 7!!!!!!!

I gotta say I'm diggin the new one, started a 'figure shit out' city just to get a feel for things, I like some of the new systems they've added. I can see where you might feel a bit cramped on space after a while but at the same time that's a good time to start a new city and kind of split things up a little bit. Played it for a solid 3-4 hours tonight and it's good stuff!

I haven't played the game forever, probably since the 90s, but always loved the game. Maybe I'll get it.

This game is going in the fucking trash. No offline access, servers are shit, and I've had to find a fucking work around just to not have to go through the tutorial over and over cause i NEED TO RESTART!

Don't waste your money till they fix shit. I'm going to use mine for target practice, it's literally all it's good for right now. Or a coaster.

LOL, put AJ in the whiny bitches camp I guess. FWIW I built 3 pretty awesome cities so far, well for me anyway. There ARE issues still that they are working through which comes with pretty much any online based game I've ever been involved in for launch. If you don't like it don't buy another online game within a week of launch. Also I played about 2 minutes of the tutorial then skipped it...not sure how you get stuck having to play it over and over again, that sucks.

I had no clue it was online only, I was planning to play it offline first for a while but no. I've built one city, servers crashed, and lost it all.

In other words, if it sucks, don't complain because the general trend is towards sucking? Bottom line is they made it an online-only game and that is breaking the functionality for some people. The trend towards online-only DRM (yeah yeah, you can believe it's for the multiplayer component if you want) is a shitty trend no matter how you break it down. If I give none fucks about the multiplayer component, why the hell tie my ability to play to EA's ability to keep their servers up?

Diablo 3 had the same issue upon launch. I was pissed as hell with that since I had taken that day off just to geek out on some D3. I pre-ordered Sim City and I happen to be on vacation when this one launched, complete and utter mess once again. Now I'm having better luck. Fun game, easiest one to manage since the original. Once the servers get all the kinks out it should be all gravy. I don't see why online only play is something to get your panties in a bunch about. Where are you going to play a game like this where you don't have internet access? Now the online only game saving is a bunch of BS that will need to be worked out, I've lost some progress too because of this.

Jay, the trent to online gaming is as much for DRM as it is for multiplayer.
