Tail of the Dragon

I recently took a road trip down through KY and TN and was able to convince the wife to drive a little (3 hours) out of the way to hit the Tail of the Dragon - 318 curves in 11 miles. It was an absolute blast and I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance. Definitely on the car enthusiast bucket list.

Awesome. Do people line up with him ahead of time for pics or is he always out there. I've seen a lot of his stuff.

In the next two-three years I plan to drive that, as part of a road trip down to the FL Keys.

Killboy and now a few other photographers are just out there snapping away. Pretty much weather dependent for the most part I think. All you do is go to their websites a few days after, look up your date, type of vehicle (car or motorcycle), and approximate time and look through the photos. Killboy's stood out from the others though and he's the originator as well.

Definitely hit it if you have a chance, you'll probably want to more than once as well.

The Dragon is cool, but i would also suggest doing "Devil's Triangle" while you're out there and the Cherohala Skyway.

The Dragon is rather congested most nice days, and nothing ruins your day like running down a fucking squid who couldn't stay on his side of the double yellows.

There's a very high concentration of similar roads out there that don't have anywhere near the same traffic.

I honestly just explore... The entire loop of Devil's Triangle will take a large part of your day and is great fun, i can't recommend it enough. :)

Moonshiner 28 is pretty fun.

Next time i go i'm going to do the Six Gap N Georgia: http://www.sixgap.com/


Realistically, every time i go i do the 120 mile Dragon/Cherohala loop, then do a lot of driving around wherever.

Next time i go, i'm going to try to hit the Dragon, Cherohala, Devil's Triangle, Six Gap, Diamondback, and Moonshiner 28 all in one trip.

I drove south out of there and was on part of one of those routes, I don't remember which one. But, yes I would agree there are lots of roads around the area where fun can be had.

Mid-October was a great time to be there for fall colors too, and on a Tues at 11am there weren't that many people driving yet.

Yeah, less time waving more time driving would be suggested for that guy lol, man that sucks for both parties involved. Clearly the old guy driving the convertible vette wasn't going fast enough or he wouldn't have been there to get hit.

Yes, do it. Mine was a great trip with all the distilleries plus Tail of the Dragon, etc.

I went to Four Roses, Woodford Reserve, and Buffalo Trace. We really liked KY and Louisville in particular. If you want more advice let me know.
