New Speed3 in MN

Hi y'all,
I just bought my second car ever, A '07 Cosmic Blue Mazdaspeed3. My other and first car is a '93 Mitsubishi 3000gt. Any info about the Speed3 or any in general would be great. I think the first couple things I'm gunna do are FMIC, Downpipe, and Racepipe.

Thx, Zach

Welcome to the crew! Sounds like you're planning on dropping some major coin on mods right off the bat. You'll hear a lot about Cosmic Blue Speeds on fire around here, but it's all in good fun. IIRC we installed a FMIC in the parking lot at Porky's a couple of years ago, did we not?

Yeah i dont know about right away. It always seems like you have big plans and then things come up big probably in steps. I've had my 3000gt for three years and didn't even do exhaust when i had plans for a TT conversion. lol

Welcome aboard! As for info on the speed3, and the DISI in general, there's a lot of smrt folks on here that have spent some time with one (myself included, god only knows how much dev time on the cyno it's spent).... what are you lookin' to know?

General problems? There's a few- and I've had/have nearly all of them. First- your engine mount is gonna want to fall out. If you aren't sure, take it to a dealer, have em run the VIN, and see if the recall has been done. Removing the VCTS and porting your intake mani is a LOT of fun- but will make the engine cranky eventually. The rods aren't the strongest things in the world, though they're not bad. The problem is too many people like to turn up the boost, and no ones got a decent line on fuel control yet. If you get a DP and have no control- you're going to see 20+psi spikes and sneeze your turbo seals. PTI sells a dope rebuild for the turbo once you do honk it, but it's expensive and you might as well go bigger. Really though, as long as you keep with the care and feeding, regular oil changes, keep an eye on your fuel trims and your PSI- you should be golden.

Also- the cosmic curse is a well known affliction in the ms3 community. We here know of two that have been totalled, one of which donated its driveline to a 2005- that promptly got hit. Several others nationally have been wrecked/started on fire/otherwise been bad luck. Hell, I just ORDERED one, and the engine mount bolt sheared off and tore apart the entire drive assembly on the drivers side of the car. New axle, new seals, the works. THAT was a fun time.

Yeah the day before I bought it I went to Brookdale Mazda-Mits. and had them check the vin and the tech said that it had all recalls taken care of, which was good. So it sounds like if I just keep in mostly stock and weel taken care of I should be fine. Cosmic Curse huh. Well that doesn't sound good lol. Well I guess I'm gunna break the curse then.

I wish you the best of luck with the Cosmic Curse. I do really like the color... it WAS what I had originally ordered... turned that car down cause I was gonna move to Texas, and then didn't move to Texas and bought a black one that Morries had. Best times I've had in a car- PILES of fun.
