So, how much oil do you have to add to the gas?

seriously though, this thing has what, a weed trimmer engine in it?

there's a hybrid too. You know, the one that is rated in mpg. Like the title of the thread indicates

Aptera has two innovative models that are almost production-ready at $30,000 and below: for next year, the all-electric, 120-mile-range Typ-1 e that we drove; and, by 2009, the range-extended series gasoline Typ-1 h, which Aptera says will hit 300 mpg.




So the 300 MPG is for the hybrid, but the one released next year is all electric. And when someone says MPG for an electric, it probably means the amount of miles you'd get from a gallon of gas spent in a power plant, and delivered over the power grid to your home. That's what the Tesla Roadster means when it says it gets 100 MPG.

Yea, I'd get me a large chomed steel spike to go over the end of that, just for those tailgating mofos.

Yea, alot of good ideas coming out on how to work around the whole oil thing, all thanks to high oil prices driving the innovation. Gotsta love capitalism!

Compressed air powered car>electric.
Yeah i've seen articles about that air powered car, but good luck getting enough air in a tank to give such a car equal range to a typical gasoline powered car. You would need a tank that holds many thousands of psi. Can you imagine if a tank holding that much pressure were punctured in an accident? Explosions of that magnitude would put the ford pinto to shame.

One wonders why they couldn't have made it a little more conventional in look, feel, and function... Also, one wonders what impact on range and mileage the use of the heat pump will have.

Well, you can't really argue with a 0.11 drag coefficient. And if you're going to shed friction by using only a single rear wheel, it would also be just silly to add weight by having the ass end be any wider than it needs to be.

That's exactly it Jay. It's all about the aerodynamics. The shape of the car, including the "spike" on the back are there simply to increase aerodynamics. The most aerodynamic shape you can get is that of a raindrop (it's molded by the air, so it only makes sense)... curved around the front and tapers off to a point in the back.

The only function I want from a car shaped like that is to impale the drivers behind me that insist on sticking their nose up my ass when I drive.

Yuppers. It's the reason they can get 120 miles on the battery only version. I wonder how big the battery is and how much charge it holds, since the tesla roadster's battery gets 250 miles and is less efficient. I think the roadsters battery weighs almost 1k pounds :O
