Moving back to MN this fall

Hey all, new guy to the forum here. Name is Matt, originally born and raised in Carver County. Moved to Portland, OR back in 2005 then up to Seattle in 2007...been hanging out in the rain ever since.

Long story short, the adventure has been fun, but am looking at moving back to the twin cities again. Your sun levels > Seattle sun levels... ha!

I'm a pretty active member on a local mazda forum in the PacNW (Mazdasnw.com)...and yes, I know Garrett... (hey Garrett, I'm chasing you down here now.... lol). MNW and MSF have been huge helps to me over the past year... yeah, I've done the ZoomZoomBoom thing.

But now, I'm back with a vengeance, have had a lot of fun out here with my VRM MS6 (including rebuilding it!)....and looking forward to meeting a few locals this fall when I officially return.

Here's a few pics for your enjoyment. Don't be shy, say hi!

And, because tomorrow is the one year anniversary of the BOOM... here's the old block out... (sniff, fun times... fun times...)

How'd you blow? I was right around your mod path and thankfully ran strong as hell 'til the day I sold it. Everyday was a guessing game though.

Welcome to the board.

Here's a good read... I blather on in detail about that day... (sorry for the link outside of the forum...) http://www.mazdasnw.com/showthread.php?7973-A-sad-day-for-the-MS6....

I brought the block down to John @ Tork Motorsports in Auburn WA (after towing it back from Bismarck ND... THAT was a bitchy long tow!!!) and had him tear it apart. It really appears the PCV valve failed.... dumped all my oil up the mani...and kablooey! The rods didn't like that... and made 8 holes in the block... on I-90 in Bismarck. I still shudder thinking about that fun adventure...

Good news? She runs like a freaking champ now!

Will be nice to meet some local Mazda folks this fall indeed.

PCV has a TSB, IIRC. All rods went though, that's pretty impressive. I bet that looked REALLY good too.
Are you getting a new exhaust manifold at all? It'd compliment that SST pretty well.

Did you dyno pre-carnage?

Yeah, the PCV TSB wasn't addressed by me... lesson learned...! It was an impressive site tearing her down. I have some nice 'souvenirs' left over.

Exhaust mani... no plans yet... but who knows. A year ago I was stock with only the intake... today, well, she's a lot different! Never say never is pretty damn true when it comes to modding my car lately.

No dyno's pre-carnage... and post rebuild, I've only been working with Virtual Dyno using the logs from the AP. As she sits now, 304hp/319lbft...but have a 3.5 bar MAP sensor that needs an install yet. Planning on getting on the dyno at that point. I'd be perfectly happy if I can get her to 350 at the wheel...then call it a day.

Unless there's a BT build in the future...

Crap. I should get through the move first.... modding needs to hold for a while....

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even at 24psi on a Stage 3 SST you won't net 350awhp. MS3s barely get there and you have way more drivetrain loss. You can certainly hit that magical 350 with torque though. Hell, I was on a stock K04 with just a few bolt ons and hit 339 on a dynojet, but I only had 285awhp (pre-exhaust mani and finalized map).

Things are really coming along for these cars though. A big turbo kit is quite reasonable and will take you as far as you want to go. I enjoyed the hell out of mine and might still have it if those kits were offered 3 years ago.

Well...a bit of an update finally....

Officially gave notice at the job and officially gave notice at the current apartment. The move date from WA to MN is set for 8/27...

Plan is to take a nice 3-4 day drive back out.... and then, it'll be official... I'll be a Minnesotan again.

Job interviews going nicely...but sure would be nice to have one of them make an offer BEFORE I move. Everyone I'm talking to is basically saying... get here first, then we'll chat. But... there's one that's not caring... they keep moving me forward in the process. That one's located in Eagan...but, I'm ideally looking for something nearish Eden Prairie/Bloomington area.

Looking forward to meeting some Minnesotan Mazda lovers in the near future!
