As always, the answer is 88-92 MX6 GT.

I'm now getting in the ~40mpg range with my MX6. I got a 41mpg on the way down to Florida in the end of September. Not bad for a 23 year old econobox with 197k miles on original motor and trans huffing ALL the boost and drinking ALL the fuel.

Haters gonna hate.

Averaged 24mpg in 30%city/70%highway in a 2007 Mazdaspeed3.
Average 26mpg in 30%city/70%highway in a 2008 Mazda5 GT (auto trans)
Averaging 19.5mpg in 30%city/70%highway in 2012 Toyota 4Runner 4wd.

Not gonna hate...just not gonna get an older car...not feasible. Want newer.

2011 Mazda 3 GT (6MT)

I've been averaging 28mpg on my daily commute(40%hwy/60%city). Best I've gotten was 33.5mpg coming back from NoDak.

My aunt just picked up a 2013 Elantra and it's a REALLY nice car, but I wouldn't buy a Hyundai...not my style...great cars now compared to 5 or 10 years ago though. She's averaging 30-32 herself.

Well... I was kind of pondering a Golf, because I figured something that small would be a nice commuter, but that's midsize v6 gas milage territory.

GTI or TDI!!! lol Actually, those are two I'm considering...although I wish they offered the GTD...FUCKING EUROPE!! Better be here for the MkVII even though I won't wait that long to buy a new car. I will have a hard time waiting until the auto show.

Question is, will I be buying a new DD or will I be buying a "fun" car and keeping the Cobalt as a DD...now I will be able to have 2 cars if I really want 2. As horrible as mileage is, I was considering a SRT8 Cherokee or TBSS because they would have the space I want for the occasional hauling, but I don't feel like averaging 15MPG's. Might as well get an MS3 or ST and have a little less space, but more fun while saving on gas and insurance.

First things first...move home, file divorce papers finally, setup payment plan with a couple bills, and go from there....save a few months worth towards a vehicle...decide if I really want/need a vehicle.

The TDIs are good but you need to run them for more miles before they really get ahead. Meaning I drive less than 8 miles to work. That would not warm up a deasil enough and may even hurt the motor. i.e. build up in the motor

I have been a long-time fan of the GTI and TDI, but I don't know which route I would go...diesel prices are so much more stable and who knows what gas prices will be next summer...would be nice to get upto 600+ miles per tank, but I don't drive enough highway so it wouldn't really be worth it...I don't think I would see mileage in the 40's/50's except for road trips.

Come spring, I'm going to see what is at the auto show and try to get a feel for each vehicle I'm interested in so I can narrow it down when it comes to test driving....right now I'm all over the place and have 2 dozen vehicles I would consider based on reviews and videos and specs without really looking at the cars in person. That's for a new DD...that's not to say if I go with a fun car instead and keep my Cobalt for DD....then I have even more cars to consider.

My truck (2500hd) gets around 12 city, 15 highway
My stealth on corn got around 14 city, 20 highway.

Was driving a Sonata yesterday. From Hudson to Baldwin and back to Hudson, I averaged 41 according to the car's system. On a beat down run from Hudson to Prescott and back, it was 33.
