35mm SLR camera

I am considering taking a photography class next semester to fulfill one of my core requirements and I have to purchase a 35mm SLR camera for the class. Do any of you have recommendations for a relatively inexpensive but good quality camera for beginners? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When I first got into photography 10 years ago, I bought a Nikon N65. It's an easy camera to learn on; it's got all the manual controls, but has some automatic modes as well. They don't make them new anymore (Nikon only makes two 35mm SLRs now, both of which are spendy), but you could find a good used one on eBay for maybe a hundred bucks, possibly with lens. You would be best getting a newer model SLR, so if you decide to keep with it and get a digital SLR, you'll be able to reuse the lenses.

Personally, I like shooting Nikons as they feel more solid to me (all but the most expensive Canons feel overly lightweight and hollow), but the image quality between a Canon and Nikon will be the same.

Nami, will you be at Porky's tonight?

It's a Minolta Maxxum QtSi, I have a 28-200 zoom lens (not the best brand or condition anymore). It's auto-everything, but can be focused manually.
