In case anyone is looking for a good vid with some early footage of this car in action, the newest episode of Fifth Gear has a good test drive of this car. They sing pretty high praises for what it can do, other than the sticker price.

The ST220 Mondeos were good offerings (I had the American version of an ST195, the SVT Contour). Would just like a new version of it here.

I hate to get off topic, but what is so darn special about the Ford Mondeo? I have heard and read so much about it, but it just seems like a basic 4-door sedan.

The Mondeo is a true driver's sedan that is moderately sized and moderately priced. Performance versions are widely lauded as the vast majority of a BMW 3-series for far less money. It's all the things I want in a car, and had with my SVT Contour, that they won't sell here anymore.

How much does that BMW cost in the UK? It can be quite misleading to use the currency-converted cost of a car as a comparison without a reference, since car prices can vary so widely between countries.

First, you can't just play exchange rates and say that's what a car costs. Taxes and other factors make it where cars don't work that way. Configuring both on UK sites, the price is not even close... 38,710 to 27,120 pounds sterling. Add a few thousand pounds for the Focus RS powertrain and you're likely still 20% less.

Second, this is not a performance version, but a top-line main version of the Mondeo. There is no performance version of the current generation at this time. I would expect a performance version to have comparable power and other upgrades to bring the car in line performance-wise and give it enough power... and I'm not a drive wheel snob.

I don't see the real advantage of these mega-huge rims. I would love to see a track test of these cars on 17", 18", and 19" wheels to see the difference. I remember when they used to do 15", 16", and 17" and the difference between 16" and 17" was essentially zero.
Brakes. I can't fit anything smaller than 17" on mine and it comes with 18" stocks. The GT-R can't fit anything smaller than 19" and it comes with 19" stock.

OK, so why 18" wheels over 17" wheels on your car? What's the advantage?

The GT-R is a completely unrelated type of car where these kids of costs don't matter, as if you can afford the cost of entry, you can afford the more expensive tires and such.

In a word, looks.

Larger wheels allow them to run a more aggressive tire while maintaining the desired proportions within the wheel well.

Maybe so, and I guess the look is fashionable... but it looks like crap to me to have this huge wheel with a black band-aid stuck on it. A certain amount of sidewall is essential to the proportional appearance of the car.

Interesting bit on the RevoKnuckle. I was kinda curious what that was all about, though it seems like a rather obvious solution. But I'm definitely all about a simple mechanical solution to torque steer rather than some weird system involving ABS and torque transfer.
