wireless interent help

long story short I need to give back the laptop i've been using for the past year. My laptop is in OK running condition, only current problem is the wireless Internet doesn't work at my new place(other laptop and roommates computers work just fine). It works at my parents and at my old place. Already wiped it and installed a new, clean OS and all the required wireless add ons.
I can find the wireless network and attempt to connect with the password but it sits in a never ending loop of 'acquiring network address' to 'disconnected' to 'connecting'.

I plan on getting a new laptop within a month or so, but i'd still like to get the wireless part figured out so I'm not tethered to a cord.

Possibly a faulty wireless card. I had the same thing happen to me with an older desktop wireless card... installed a new one and everything was gravy.

But the first thing I'd do is turn off the security settings on the wireless router and see if you can connect. If you can connect to an open network, it's probably that the router is using an encryption setting that your wireless card doesn't support.

Also go through the wireless router and check all the settings. If there are any "enhancement" settings, turn them all off. Some routers have proprietary signal/speed boosting settings that don't play well with all network cards.

pretty sure its the router seeing as wireless works at other locations and seeing that it did just fine when our network had no security enabled.

Maybe it's the driver for the Wireless, i would double check the network drivers and make sure you got the right one installed. What OS are you running?
