Warning about DaBears2k HID kits

I've been keeping an eye on some threads on M3F regarding DaBears2k.com selling an HID kit that they're falsely advertising. Like the other people in the threads (which were conveniently deleted by DaBears2k), I bought a 35w "ExPower" HID kit, which is advertised as being Japansese-made:

One of the other posters in a thread expressed concern that the ExPower kits were really Japanese-made, as the kit he received looked nothing like what was listed in the picture on the DaBears2k site. Additionally, he was able to track down the original manufacturer of his "ExPower" ballast, and it turns out they were manufactured in China.

That poster got in contact with me after I posted in the thread, and after sending him a pic of my "ExPower" HID ballasts (which didn't look like either his nor the ones on the DaBears2k site), he discovered that they were also made by a manufacturer in China.

He's set up a page with the information he's gathered so far, including pictures:

I'm not advocating a boycott of DaBears2k or anything, but I did want to pass along the warning that, in light of the evidence, the people behind DaBears2k are being untruthful about their "ExPower" HID kits. I feel a little ripped off, having paid $105 for an HID kit that's no better quality than a $40 kit from DDM. I don't think I'm going to buy anything from DaBears2k again, especially since they've been trying to sweep the issue under the rug.

That seems like a really REALLY dumb thing for him to lie about. If they're made in Japan, and you want to imply that makes them higher quality than a Chinese-manufactured kit, whatever. It's probably completely untrue, but such is marketing. But to take a Chinese kit, and say "wow, these kits are teh awesomer because they are Japanese yo!" is just downright stupid. Especially since the kits cost exactly the same price as the so-called inferior Chinese ones. (btw... the DDM kit I purchased shipped from dabears2k)

The ExPower kits actually sell for MORE than the DDM ones on his site...he has 35w DDM kits for $95, and 35w ExPower kits for $105.

What probably sucks the most is that DDM Tuning sells the DDM Slim kit (the same one DaBears2k sells) for $70. I could have just gotten that, saved $35, and gotten the same quality kit I have now.
