There are a number of manufacturers that make quality products, but I would examine what your goals are. That way, you can try and find a turbo that will spool quickly, but also support the numbers you are hoping to make.

Also, I would look to the Focus Forums for info on what has already been used and what type of success people had with varying different turbos.

I moved this on over to a better forum section for you :) As for your question like Joe said it's really going to depend on the motor and what your overall goals are, lower HP numbers will let you have a smaller faster spooling turbo, allowing you to make more power earlier on in your RPM range.

At the end of the day the focus forums are going to be your best bet as every car is a little different. I'm sure once you have an idea of whats been done we can offer some input on a particular turbo, manufacturer, etc.

I think tom's thought process there is that you boost the hell out of the stock motor, and have a crazy grin plastered on your face for a couple weeks. Then you blow a piston through the oilpan and replace the motor with something built for boost.

Pretty much.

Seriously though, you have to look at what eventual goals you have for the car. This will determine the build process and what parts you select. Saying you want a turbo is fine, you can put a turbo on anything and have a lot of fun until it explodes. Having a RELIABLE turbo car with power delivery at all RPM ranges that won't nuke itself is something that not everyone can do or even think of. Start like this, what do you want to be able to do with the car?

I think the eventual goal here is to drive 'round town and whisper focus to people at stop lights and blast off when it turns green. ....focus... vroom ... pssht.

I would go with a very small turbo for an engine with high compression like yours. What is the smallest garrett on the market?

Yeah, something like a k04 would be a good start with that kind of compression, or even a t-25 out of an old DSM. Get a manifold made with the right flange, and you can probably scam a t-25 for 100$. No one wants the things.
