The Official "Get in Shape" Thread

Looks like my idea spurred quite a bit of interest. I'm not sure what direction this will take, but I'm just going to start discussing my "routine" and how things are coming along.

I'll post my measurements when I'm home, but my short-term goal is to cut 10 lbs and lean out while toning. I plan on a 5-day weightlifting program separated into chest, back, arms, shoulders, and legs. Abs will be done daily, with a cardio program of 20 minutes/day alternating intensities to jump the heart rate. I plan on officiating hockey games at least twice a week for two hours each time as well.

I will do a weekly weigh-in with measurements as well and see where the progress takes me. My diet is generally pretty healthy, but I am going to cut down on the alcoholic beverages.

It seems strict, but I feel that's the motivation I need - along with you guys. So, if anyone else is interested in doing some winter exercise post up your goals, your program, and possibly share some food ideas too and we'll see where it takes us!

I'm confused.
I have no weight goals. Well maybe to gain a few pounds of muscle weight. I do want to start working out again, especially since the winter season brings a lot of tenseness in my muscles and sore joints and what not. Where do you work out?

I've been working out more and more. My workout usually consists of 4 nights a week. Day 1: chest & back, day 2: arms & shoulders, day 3: legs, day 4: whole body. I usually try to do cardio 2x a week for 30 minutes.

Over the last 2 months I've cut out soda (except for 2-3 a week) and have been drinking water. My meals have been healthier and this week I've tried having a smoothie for breakfast.

So far I've lost 15lbs and gained muscle as well. Short term goal is to get in shape for my cruise in January. :)

Oh, and I go to Lifetime in Eagan or Woodbury.

When I cut out pop and beer and just ate less I dropped nearly 10 lbs in a month. I'm going to get back into that role a bit more and also get more active at home.

For now I work out at home using an all-in-one machine, and an elliptical. Nothing beats the gym though, so when I feel comfortable enough to drop $60-80/mo. I'll go to Lifetime.

Oh ok, gotcha. Inver Hills has two wait rooms that students can use anytime free of charge. They have a lot of good machines. One room is compose of I think like 12 Nautilis machines and then a bunch of stair steppers, tredmills, bikers, etc. Pretty nice. Other room is mostly a weight room. I'm going to start working out a work out plan for myself and then I will get it posted on here!

I just did 3 mile runs every day, after a week straight I felt toner but then got sick...and stopped. Then I got a wii fit did that for 1 hour a day (all the yoga and strength training) and after a week felt toner, then stopped doing it. Now I am trying to run in the morning and bike at night but man things come up all the time and stray me from working out. The main problem is just staying on schedule of working out. If you can do that your almost golden.

Totally forgot to update this...

Looking back since November 6th I've been working out at least 2-3 days a week, sometimes 4. Haven't been as consistent as I wanted to be, but hey..shit happens. Every Friday I've done 2-2.5 hours of consistent cardio playing hockey. Everytime I work out it's been a 45-60min. workout, then abs, then a 20 min. cardio session peaking the heart rate multiple times.

November 6th measurements:
Weight - 161.6 lbs
Biceps - 12.8"
Chest - 37.4"

December 16th measurements:
Weight - 159.4 lbs
Biceps - 13.25"
Chest - 38.25"

So, I don't know how accurate my measurements are (the instinct is to inflate your chest, or max our the flex on the biceps), but I can definitely see an improvement, and that's all the motivation I need (the numbers do help though).

My goal is to drop 20lbs from Jan 1 - April 1. I guess I never though of a tool to measure other than weight, lol. My goal is get my size 36 slacks/jean to feel baggy of sorts again. :)

So I've officially given up on all pop/soda and I'm eating fairly healthy right now. Not much fast food, smaller portions, trying for 4 times a day, and I drink basically nothing but water. Found out the the amount of G2 I was drinking was worse than my 2 cans of Mt Dew I'd have. So I drinking nothing but water now mostly. Snacks are now Apples, Pears, Celery, Carrots, ect ect...

I'll really get back into working out a little here soon as well, hoping to do some sort fo 30 min activity 5 days a week. I'm hoping to drop 30lbs from todays weight by 6/30/08.

So I want to lose 6 lbs a month for the next 5 months.
