So I need an engine...

110 HP of FURY!
That sucks. I know they are busy but honestly I would see if you can talk to Shane about the schedule. Maybe they can right the ship, maybe not, but product wise they know their shit.

Update 12/13/13

Hey guys--

Sorry it's been so long. I figured I'd put up an update on the car for anyone who is interested.

I want to start by giving the guys at RS the recognition they deserve. After being dicked around by DB for about a month, I called the guys at RS who got the car in on the date DB had originally told me they would be able to start, even though it was super inconvenient for RS. That was huge. They've done awesome work and been really understanding about budget. They've even done a good job explaining what the hell they're doing in a way I can sort of understand! Alright; here we go.

So, I decided to keep the car. In retrospect, this was the wrong decision, but at this point we've come too far for that. The engine was swapped out for a brand new block with forged pistons and rods. I got the car back in a timely fashion and thought my ordeal was over. Two days later the car had to be towed back for an issue that I can't actually remember at this point-- This was in September. With that issue sorted out, I got the car back once again. Bong from RS suggested I install a race pipe as one of my Cats was completely clogged and causing an unfortunate smell. Can't have that. I brought the car in and had the pipe installed. Unfortunately, the reason the cat was so clogged was because it was disguising the amount of oil smoke coming out of my exhaust. I tried to drive the car home, got to the first stoplight, and couldn't see through my windshield because the car was blowing out so much smoke. So I turned around and drove it back to RS. We were really really hoping that the smoke was coming from left over oil that spilled into the exhaust when the old engine went kaput. Alas, this was not the case. Upon further examination Bong discovered that my turbo had gone so bad that it was spitting oil. The only course of action was to replace the turbo. Sigh. Just this week I got the car back with a GT37R installed and a new fuel pump. So far so good. The car will have to go back in one last time (I HOPE!) to be tuned on the dyno, but for that RS has to rent some kind of license from MAP to be allowed to tune the Accessport. PLEASE keep your fingers crossed for me that this will really be the last time (for a while at least) I have to do literally anything with this car.

A list of the things I can remember paying for:
New block
Pistons
Rods
Cobb Accessport
Cobb Boost control
Several oil changes
Race down pipe
Garrett GT37R
Custom fit turbo inlet
Fuel pump
Other things that don't immediately spring to mind.

Well, thanks for the help guys, and if you have any questions/comments/concerns/suggestions or just want to laugh at me, feel free.

OH MY GOD I FORGOT THE BEST PART!

I went to get my car from Bobby & Steve's on the 19th. Keep in mind, I had never been called by them. NOT ONCE. I get there, have my most polite face on, I'm in a collared shirt for god's sake. Allan, the service manager, promptly informs me that I owe him one thousand dollars in storage charges. I tell him I'm confused, I had never been told about a storage charge, and if I'd known I would've gotten the car out of there way sooner. His response:

"Kinda sounds like you're lying to me. We make a point here to call everyone with a car in the lot and update them every week. The only way you could prove to me that that didn't happen would be to show me your phone records. You really thought you were just going to dump a shit out car on us for a month and not have to pay anything? And then walk in here with that entitled attitude and just take it out for free?"

So, I didn't hit him, which was a big deal. After about an hour of back and forth with me being as professional as possible and Allan throwing around playground insults, I got my father on the phone. He came down to talk to Allan. Allan immediately straightens up and says:

"Hello sir, what can I do for you today?"

This is the asshole who two minutes ago was calling me an entitled liar. To make a long story sort of short, I ended up paying for the two to Bobby & Steve's (no problem) and the labor they did to diagnose my car (again, no issue with that), and half the grand he thought I owed him (big problem for me, but I wanted my damn car).

DO NOT GO TO BOBBY & STEVE'S. FOR ANY REASON. GET AN OIL CHANGE ELSEWHERE. GET GAS ELSEWHERE. BUY CIGARETTES AND CANDY ELSEWHERE FOR GOD'S SAKE. This was the third AWFUL experience I've had with them, and I won't EVER go there again for ANY reason.

Bummer on all the BS and unexpected expenses you have encountered but it sounds like you have a good platform for some decent power. Do you have any mod on the intake side? If so and if you going to tune for something much about 300 hp I'd highly recommend upgrading the high pressure fuel pump prior to a tune. It's now the weakest link in your build and is worth doing prior so you don't have to pay for a second tune.

I'll double check with the guys at RS but I believe they went ahead and upgraded it. Definitely something I need to know as we're shooting for 500-550.

Which B&S? Maybe I can get the back story if it's the one Coleman works at.

It was the one on Washington in Minneapolis. I know they're crazy busy and I don't mean to take out my anger on their whole staff. But the way their service manager handled that situation was unbelievable-- like I thought he was kidding at first. And their service department hasn't been really reliable either. I got my girlfriend's car back from them because they marked it as completed before they even began the work on it. So I got it back before they actually replaced the brakes.

Question for you. What was done to the engine before it blew out. Any mods? were you in 6th gear and getting on the gas a little while it was under 3k rpm? It looks like you've gone the distance with this thing already why not just get the clutch and get it tuned and enjoy it? Also I'm surprised you had such a good encounter with RS Motors. Me and another person have had the worst time with them. Maybe they've gotten better?

The engine had a Corksport FMIC, and a new intake, new exhaust. I think that was it when it blew. No mods, nothing. When it blew I was in third gear going 30, starting to work my way up high enough to boost and look like a cool kid. But when the engine blew I think I was at 2400 RPM, so it wasn't like I was redlining it. I did have a really good experience with RS. I don't know if he's still working there because last time I checked his wife was having a medical emergency, but if he's still there and you can get him, Bong is a really awesome tech. They do leave a lot to be desired as far as communication and convenience go, however, so I can see where you'd have struggled with them. The car's at MAP right now, and I'm most likely going to end up keeping it. It's getting a tune, a new boost gauge, lowering springs, and maybe some body repair. I'll keep the thread updated!

I see. Well it seems like if you had a fmic and intake with exhaust and no fuel pump internals or tune that might be a good reason why it would go zoom zoom boom. Also the 2.3 disi engine makes a lot of torque at very low rpm, usually flooring it when the car isn't above 3k rpm yet will put a lot of stress on the engine alone. That's why I on "other" site they say don't go into 6th and floor it if your not even past 3k rpm yet. Just some food for thought from what' I've researched.

That seems to be general consensus. Hopefully with the new fuel pump internals and pistons and rods I'll be able to abuse the engine a bit more without this happening again. Not sure I want to find out though.
