Republican Deficit Hypocrisy

I do not think it is fair to label the spending of Bush and others as the belief of the Republican Party as a whole.

I think you'd have a very valid point if Bush hadn't got elected twice covering the span of multiple house and at least one senate election, where they maintained majority. At least on a national level it was a belief...

I think we define a political party differently. I define it more at the belief of the citizens, and most people I know who are Republican voters were opposed to the wild spending of the Bush administration and Congress during this time... but were not given better options to vote for others. If you define the party as the actions of the elected officials, there may be more of a point.

Not given better options to to vote for?? Thats a lame way out. I beleive that republicians vote in the Republican primary's that give the the canidates on the ballets, who they then voted into office. Please, they voted for those people on the promise to cut taxs, run 2 unfunded wars, and raise medicare spending by $800 billion. The most recently elected repubs are now fighting the dems by claiming they want to cut medicare spending, which is currently unfund by $20 trillion, give or take a few trillion, and abusing laugage in the bill that would reduce end of life costs by labelling it "death panels." Republicans repeatly have choosen these people to represent them, it's not a one time mistake. Your statement seems to say the the right wing has no control over what the republican party does and who it puts on the ticket. I believe the majority of people who claim to be republicans are hipocrits for electing these people into office. Prove me wrong by taking back the party by replacing the do nothing, know nothings with true fiscal conservitives.

I feel that you can define a party by the actions of it's leaders given the definition accounts for a meaningful span of time; for me eight years (and the numerous election cycles in which to change leadership) seems like enough. Like the author said... there is just a certian level of hypocrisy going on in the republican party with zero accountability from the people who elected them or call themselves republicans. But I see where you're coming from; what option would a fiscal conservative who doesn't believe in abortion had during the 'Bush Years'; not many I suppose.
My intent in posting this was not to lambast republicans for being repbulicans, but to just highlight how our current system works (or doesn't), where everything, for the most part, the other party does is wrong... until your party wants to do it. (This also goes for independants, who in my view tend to lean more right than they do left). Democrats have thier own particular failings too.
