Prosport Oil Pressure Gauge Install - HELP!

New Member
Has anybody installed one of these? I'm trying to figure out what the heck a "sensor attachment" is that I'm told I need to purchase 'extraly', according to Prosport's instructions. I tried contacting Prosport and their best suggestion was..."search the internet". Thanks Prosport...very nice of you to reply with absolutely no help at all...

So, if any of you MNMazda guys can help out, that would be awesome!

Thanks!

Are we talking electrical or mechanical gauge?

I'm assuming electrical. I installed a prosport oil pressure gauge in my 6 and it came with the gauge and an oil pressure sending unit. So you ran wires from the gauge to the sending unit.

Anyways, I installed it by making a custom T using brass fittings and teflon tape from the hardware store. The T setup allowed me to have both the stock oil pressure unit (for the dummy light) and my prosport sending unit hooked up at the same time, thus avoiding CELs.

I did everything during an oil change so the oil was all drained. I took out the stock sending unit and attached a small piece of pipe straight out. Then on the end of that I attached a T fitting. Then on each end of the T I attached the stock and prosport pressure sending units. It worked well for me.

So, you'd have find the stock sending unit and see what the space around it looks like to potentially find something that works for you.

Also, as Jay mentioned, you could use a sandwich plate, but that would require you to switch to a spin-on style oil filter as the stock Speed3 cartridge style filter setup will not work with a sandwich plate.

My bad, I forgot the speed3 uses a cartridge filter. You're probably best off using Tim's method of tee-ing off the stock sensor location. Do you happen to recall the threading the stock sensor uses?

If needed I could probably find it. I have some stuff saved on my laptop from my install.

Silver, do you have any pics or advice on making this T? I plan on installing this weekend and I've had one heck of a time trying to figure out the whole sandwich plate and oil filter converter figured out. Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Nevermind. I guess I can't attach on a PM. So, see attachment.

Here's what I have. The MS3 should be pretty similar to the 2.3L 6i, except you'll have to scope out the space around the sender to see how to configure your Tee fittings.

I did it the same way Tim did and the install works great, I've even got oil pressure in there as well but I've got one problem. The oil temperature doesn't work because there isn't enough oil circulation through the piping to heat the sensor up. In fact the gauge doesn't even move. Part of the solution would be to insulate the piping and even then who knows how accurate the sensor would be. The perfect solution would be to have it sitting at the bottom of your oil pan, but I've not heard of anyone doing it that way.

yeah, it seems to be the only way to get an accurate oil temp reading would be to actually tap the oil pan so the sensor is immersed in oil. Otherwise, you're just not going to see the kind of circulation needed to get an accurate reading.
