Postponed - Friendly Texas Holdem Tournament @ Picklez's in January

Postponed for the time being

I'm looking to throw a little Texas Holdem tournament sometime in January, looking at Friday the 15th right now. This would first and foremost be a FRIENDLY game, newbies would be welcome and I have no issues teaching the game to people (it's an easy game to learn) looking for 4-7 others who would be up for 2-3 games. Format would be as follows.


*$5 Buy-in, re-buys available for the first 20 minutes of each game.
*Blinds start at $25/50 and double every 20 minutes.
*Exact starting chip amount TBD
*Second place gets their buy-in back ($5) First place wins the rest, unless the last two decide to chop (split) the pot.
*Probably play 2-3 games

Again this would be a friendly game, probably starting around 6 or 7. I'll have the poker table setup downstairs so the 360 and PS3 will be available for those who are knocked out early.

If you would be interested in playing let me know, and also let me know if that date would work for you or not.

I've always been into the more traditional poker games than hold'em, but I'd be down for giving it a shot. If nothing else, it'll be an easy $5 for the winner, and I'll play some rockband... haha

I am normally very opposed to poker, due to the commercialization of it and everyone being OMG POKERZ!!!111!!!!one! I may however be interested in this.

I guess that's generally how I feel about texas hold em. For decades and decades, poker is just some game that old dudes play to get away from the missus, then suddenly hold em is this pop culture phenomenon to the point where they actually televise tournaments and shit. I'm not opposed to the game in any way, I just never really got into the hold em hype.

I've been playing poker with the fam since long before it was cool though, so I'm always down for some nickel-ante cards.

For the record I was playing hold'em before Moneymaker won and the big craze came about, it's been around far longer than most people probably know. I just like the way a no-limit game plays, I've played plenty of dealers choice, cash games, etc and I always go back to the no limit tourney type play.

As we get a little closer I'll nail the details down as far as confirming a date and setting a time. If we have more than 8 people that want to play we'll get 2 tables going and just combine them once enough people get knocked out. Spectators would be welcome. I may or may not need some additional chips and possibly some chairs, but we can nail all that down as the date nears.

I don't have any problem with Poker as a game, used to be pretty good myself.... mostly because I could half count a deck of cards. But I quit and got all angry when it became all popular and whatnot. I remember seeing it on ESPN like 15 years ago and going WTF? And now..... yeah. Ah well either way, it might be a good time.

I'm bumping this up, I need to postpone this for the time being, new job + trying to study and pass a couple cert tests = I've had way too much going on and am not real sure about my availability. It sounds like there is/was a decent amount of interest though so I will try and reschedule it once I am able.
