Any kid who's mature enough to walk a mile to get where he wants to go instead of whining for a ride is old enough to walk there by himself.

"Since the onset of the Great Recession, according to a CBS News poll, a third of parents have cut their kids' extracurricular activities. They downsized, downshifted and simplified because they had to — and often found, much to their surprise, that they liked it. When a TIME poll last spring asked how the recession had affected people's relationships with their kids, nearly four times as many people said relationships had gotten better as said they'd gotten worse."

I'm not surprised.

It really depends on the area as well. Parents decision. People shouldnt judge so much.
13 year old kid? If the kid can't walk less than a mile to the store in your area you need to move! now! (choosing to live in an area like that is bad parenting)

The financial situation can make living in another area impossible. There is no right way to raise a child but there is a wrong way.

wait for it, wait for it...

The financial situation can make living in another area impossible.
was waiting for someone to say that. Its TOTAL BULLSHIT. Maybe for a week or two, but after that nearly anyone in any financial situation can move. The country is full of places where you can live for next to nothing and WALK DOWN THE FUCKING STREET without worry.
