Interesting... this makes me sad. Keep the MS3 a limited prod car! I want my resale value. It's too bad they made an 09, now they're making even more :(

Looks similar, not sure I'm feeling the hood scoop or the dual exhaust. No LSD either?!

I like the look of the dual exhaust and while I DO think the hole in the hood is MUCH bigger than it probably needs to be, it reminds me of the scoop on a mini x20 or so...lol Interesting that they have dual fuel doors on the test car too...never seen that before that I can recall. Obviously not both doors will go into production, but I wonder if the side the door is on varies by country or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if they customized the design of the new 3's specifically for the North American market, seeing how they did with the new 6. The only real reason the fuel door is on the right side of the current 3's is because that's where they customarily put them in Japan, since they're right-hand-drive. It was much easier for Mazda to just flip the interior for left-hand drive than the exterior panels too. Makes me wonder if the JDM next-gen 3's will follow in the new 6's tradition of looking better than the US version.

The 3 is intended to still be a global car, and my Mazda6 has the fuel door unfortunately on the left already, which was also a global car.

I would MUCH rather have the fuel door on the right for safety, as it is less likely to be hit.

Except here in MN where people drive in the left lane, often so they don't have to deal with "traffic" while they're talking or texting on their cell phone, which puts the right side of their car toward the rest of traffic. It's also more likely to be hit on the right side by meatheads that fly down an on-ramp without bothering to adjust their speed to traffic with the expectation that people will naturally get out of their way.... Can you tell I'm not a big fan of many metro drivers?!...lol

I prefer the right side too though James, mainly because when I pull up to get gas, I'd rather keep the passenger side close to the pump so I don't have to worry about hitting a cement pillar as I open my door (like the dude filling up his Chevy pickup on the other side of the pump from me yesterday did).

I think the whole limited production was to spur people to make rash purchase and to make it easy for the sales people to charge over msrp. You haven't heard that 5000 production number since the the end of '06.

I think that the masking on the hood makes it hard to really know what a hood scoop will look like, if it even makes it into production. I think if they are still going with a TMIC, then a scoop is a must.

Previous Mazdaspeed versions were only 1 year runs, the Speed6 was the first 2 year run, and now the MS3 is on it's third year, and looking like it will keep going.

I know it sucks Dan, I was hoping for a limited prod run too... however, it would be collossally stupid to axe a model that sold that well. They can charge a premium for it, and get it all day. Can't say that with a lot of cars.

I don't think you have to worry about resale. How many regualr mazda3's are there on the road? And yet those things still retain value like mad.

My point is that a great car will retain its value no matter how many are produced. If the regular 3 holds value well, then the speed3--which is everything that made the mazda3 a great car, and then some--will have no problem retaining value, even if mazda cranks out shit-tons of them.

I don't see how it isn't a limited production run just because they make separate limited production runs in multiple model years.

However, I think resale value should be the last concern when buying a car.

It's nothing I considered before buying the car... but I have it now and it is a concern. It's not like I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it was going to be a full time model.
