New Glarus Brewing Cruise & Tour

There was some discussion of taking a cruise to New Glarus during tint day and I wanted to post it up on for discussion. They have self guided tours every day but holidays. Due to the distance this would be an overnight cruise and would be something we would set up to be something like this:

Leave 9ish Sat Morning
With an estimate 5-6 hour drive we would get there around 2 and have 2 hours for the tour as a little pre tasting before we do a dinner and figure out something else for night cap.
Come back Sun Morning

It's a long drive, so if some stops are wanted we would need to leave sooner... or....

Figure over the course of 2 days 10-12 hours of driving.

Time frame is likely a weekend in July or August.

So here I'd like to hear from anyone interested and if there are some common weekend that would not work.

This gonna happen, it's just making sure I don't schedule it on a weekend where everyone has something going on. Jana and I are gonna do the trip and tour. If it's by ourselves we'll do another day with a stop over in IA, but with a group we'll do more of a straight shot. The whole town looks like it would be a nice and relaxing getaway.

I am down, but I have AT for the guard from the 2-17 august. We don't care for the beer tour more of the drive and relaxing.

the beer tour is optional and all self guided so yeah, the basis of the trip really would be relaxing. I'd likely also find a park for some group grilling.

lodging looks to be right at the $100 mark for the night, which isn't bad, though I'm going to look for some other ideas. There will obviously be no bomber run.

FYI, people who may be interested have until Saturday night to let me know any weekend that they surely wouldn't be able to make. Sunday I'll put some final details together and set a date.

I don't have any firm plans for July/August and am definitely interested in this. Later in July or in August would work better than early July just due to the 4th and because that is when work is busy for quarter end.

it would be 10+ hours of driving in one day if not an overnighter... If anyone is interested in a two day, two overnight event, we could break up the driving and add a town.

Drive Friday all the way through to WI and do as planned on day one.
Sat afternoon we head into my hometown in IA, midway between the brewery and the cities via hwy 52 and do Sat in my old stomping grounds. For cost we could all even camp on my land vs a hotel. There is also another brewery in town to do tastings at Sat night, as well as some great food, Mabes Pizza, in which I would treat the group.

Then Sunday we drive the remaining 2.5-3 hours to the cities.

FYI I am still working on this, just waiting for Jana and I to narrow down another trip this summer and then we can finalize a weekend.

Right now I'm eyeing July 13th. Leave a location on the SE side of the cities early that morning (8am).

Coming home Jana and I may go through Decorah as stated above, which is the HWY 52 route. For any reason people want to make this a 2 night affair, 1 night in New Glarus and one in Decorah we would do a Fri night drive to WI, then Sat night stay in IA, and Sun would only be a 2.5 to 3 hours drive home, depending where you are at in the cities.

Be[/URL]tween the two towns I guess it's a great place to spend a weekend, cost appropriate for small town age, and plenty good food and beer and now booze to sample!!!!

I'd really like to make this into a Friday through Sunday event. Leave Friday at a decent, but not too early hour. Spend Friday night and the majority of the day say in New Glarus/Monroe. Sat afternoon we drive to Decorah IA for a night on the town, my hometown style. Sunday morning we head back, makes it only about a 3 hour drive home.

Do people want to do a 1 night or 2 night event? Both towns offer hotels for less than or top out at $100 a night.

Yeah, it's not ideal but due to the hours those places have and the amount of driving, I'm just trying to think about what is best. Maybe if we just leave early on Sat it will be just fine.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. With that much driving each way, it'd be nice to be able to pull a whole day of shens somewhere.

I know either way Jana and I are going. Apparently it's just a fun little town to visit and stay in so I want to give some people some time to review the date posted, talk over the 1 or 2 day option, and hopefully we'll make a group outing of it!
