MNMazda Potluck Grillinz Event - June 25 (location TBD)

Alright, we need something to get summer going. I am just pulling this date out of my ass because it's far enough out that we can get plans put together, but not so far that everyone forgets about it.

It's been way too long since we've had a good old fashioned potluck grilling meet. Some of you OG guys will remember the awesome meets we had back in the days when we all drove a Mazda3... before they had turbo ones... even before the existence of MNMazda. That's what we need to get going again.

So here's what I need from you guys:
-Who is going to attend? (If you have the date free, plan on coming. You WILL have a good time!)
-What are you planning to bring? (4 categories: meat, side, beverage, dessert. We can sort out details and make adjustments later if need be)
-Ideas on where to hold it? (Public area with plenty of parking nearby, and ideally a spot where we can get 20 or more folks in one area)


My first thought on location is Como park. If you keep away from some of the really hot areas or get there early there is plenty of parking to be had, and lots of open spaces to throw down blankets, chairs, grills, etc) As to a time, I am thinking we kick things off early-ish (~10am or so) to ensure we have a good spot. Bring a frisbee, bring a football, bring a kite, bring an RC drift car... hang out till everyone is food coma'd and ready to pass out! lol

Also, just wanted to say I would strongly encourage people to show up to this, especially if you don't make it to a lot of the weekly meets. We used to do stuff like this almost every month back when the site was smaller, and I think it would be great to pick it up again. If you're a newbie to the site, definitely come out and meet some folks!

What he said. These kinda meets are what MNMazda was built on, before it was even MNMazda. It was always a really good time, the food was always good, and it was nice to just sit and hang out.

Just call up a park and reserve a covered spot.

Let's just have someone reserve something and call it done.

I think the date works for us. If we get a place with electricity, I want to put myself down for bringing a pizazz and I'll have some fun pizza's to cook up on site.

You know what park we COULD use, is that one in Roseville with the hippy smokin' the reefer that we scared when we set off 10 car alarms at once because it was funny. I think you and Jurgen are the only ones that still HAVE the cars from that meet.

Now that was funny! I may be camping this weekend, but if not I will most certainly be in, and could be talked in to bringing the Weber with!

I could go for any place but como, that entire place can be a cluster fuck for getting a place and parking. I think a place that's easy for everyone to find and get to would work. I don't care if it's apple valley or elk river, but shelter and easy access would be ideal to make it a rain or shine event.

Really? I've never had a problem getting to or parking at Como unless there was some kind of event going on.

I think Kelsey is in Colorado that Weekend, but I think I will be free. I shall verify and report back.

As for locations I know the park @ Eagan where there is the DG course has a big covered area nearby the parking lot, lots o room for R/C's (in tennis courts too if they are un-occupied!) softball, tennis, DG, etc. I'll try and think up some other spots too.

Okay, June 25th is the day. Let's get a location finalized ASAP. I know of the Eagan park Picklz speaks of, and I seem to recall that being a good candidate. I guess I'd like to do someplace where we can just roll in, stake out a grassy area with some picnic tables and chill out, so any other suggestions along those lines? Oh and grills would be good, unless we can get maybe 2 people with portable propane grills you volunteer?

I vote Eagan. No clue if those dirty little park grills are there, last I remember, Como, the falls, and a few places on the lake trails are the only ones that have em anymore.

The more I think about it the more a place with some DG sounds like win. Haven't done that in a long time now, and it sounds like a good way to kill some time.

And really, there's enough of us with discs that if someone else wants to give it a whirl, we can cobble together a decent set for em (not like any DG discs are bad..... they all seem to be about the same, its a matter of preference)
