iPhone 4 vs * (or, the iPhone fanboy thread)

Mine should be here by 3:00pm.

For $200, it is the best phone you can buy IMHO. The EVO would be my next choice, but after dealing with Android for 2 years I want something that is *magical* in my pocket. Tired of always having two batteries, reboots, and task managers. Multitasking is cool until you install an app that just hogs all the resources and when you get a phone call your phone just freezes.

My HTC Diamond is 2 years old and handles multi-tasking just fine.

What phone do you have? I have the original Moto Droid and don't have any of those issues.

The 3g is a two year old phone with a 400mhz processor and 128mb RAM, of course it can't handle multitasking. The android OS wasn't even released until a few months after this phone came out. When did Android get multitasking, I don't recall if it was available at release or not.
Android had multitasking at launch with the G1, which only had 500mHz itself.

Also, iPhone OS 4 doesn't even have true multitasking.

10 things Android does better than iPhone(however thats not to say there aren't many things the iPhone OS doesnt do better than Android, mainly media)

If you want an iPhone that's fine. I'm just sick of fanbois saying it's still #1 and groundbreaking, when Apple has been playing catch up with their ONE SINGLE DEVICE for two years. HTC has released how many phones this past year? HTC upgraded them all substantially. The iPhone is a great phone, but it's no longer groundbreaking or the best.

Hell my Moto Droid is near the bottom in terms of features and its not even a year old. Looking at the Droid 2, it has upgraded about as much if not more than the iPhone in half the time. Take the Droid X into account, and thats a significant upgrade. However, I doubt ill be able to overlook it's camera bulge it has on the back. I has a Samsung a900 with a similar bulge and I got used to that, though. Still freaking ugly, but since I can't go crawling back to Sprint(no real ROI) I might consider function over form.

Argument from many iPhoners "Google launches half ass products with problems, Apple's products are stable and rigorously tested before release"

Um every corp does, otherwise, how do you explain this
As if AT&T doesn't have bad service as it is, iPhone 4's are dropping signal from touching the phone

I got my new iPhone this morning...

Holy crap, the screen is amazing. I was skeptical about how all the first looks said it looked so good, but it does. It's truly amazing.

Also, about the reception issue above. I am unable to reproduce this. I've tried holding it every which way I can think of and it doesn't affect my reception at all. It could be because my service here is good enough that grounding the antenna isn't enough to affect it, but I'm not able to test it elsewhere yet.

All I can comment on is build quality / screen since I haven't activiated mine yet, but it feels pretty damn solid, and yeah, wow @ the screen.

I played with the reception issue a little bit more, inside the building more (I sit by the window), and I was able to reproduce it. From what I can tell, you have to connect all 3 pieces of metal with your hand. The three pieces go as follows:

from left bottom to top left (7 to 11:30ish)
top left to right bottom (11:30ish to 5)
and from the bottom of each side, around the bottom. (5-7)

Holding the phone on the bottom left with your palm connects the 1st and third piece, and then you wrap your fingers around the 2nd piece. I don't actually hold my phone like that normally though.

There are rumor's that it's a software issue of some kind, though I'm not sure how it could be. We shall see...

Huh? What do you mean connect the three pieces with your hand???

All I know is I hate my current HTC Imagio phone that I have with Verizon. I've only owned it since December, and it is the biggest piece of crap I've ever had. It's touch screen is horrible...making calls/picking up calls/hanging up is almost impossible sometimes. Then it will just freeze...ugh.

I've had the iTouch (thanks to Collin) for just over a month, and I love it. However, I'm still not ready to switch providers. :(

The new iphone has a stainless steel frame around the edge. It's made up of three separate pieces, which all act as antennae for various functions (wifi, 3g, bluetooth, etc).

When you go from low res to high res, it's awesome. I just don't get why they went with such a high resolution. It's nearly akin to having a 1080p hdtv thats only 40". All I can figure is it's a marketing stand point since it's the iPhone "4" and it's "4" x as many pixels. The screen is definitely far superior than the the previous iPhone.
