Install CAI before winter?

Hello,

I just got a CP-E MAFci Cold Air Intake for my 2005 Mazda 6s. I'm wondering if I should install it now, or wait until spring.

I've ordered a pre-filter from CP-E for the unit.

Anybody have any troubles with slush and water during the winter?

Thanks
JR

glad to see you made it over.

your not going to run into any problems with hydrolock/water getting into the engine/intake unless you drive through standing water deep enough to reach the filter. sucking up minuscule amounts of water isn't going to damage the engine. I'd wait till spring just so i don't have to deal with a cold install, but ultimately its up to you.

I'M OFFENDED!
You won't have an issue at all, like Kris said. Honestly, I'd do it right away, because you're gonna be sad looking at shiny parts sitting on your dining room table. I had that problem last winter... had all KINDS of fun stuff to get on the car, and damn near sold it all before I installed because I was sick of looking at it.

Snow and slush are the least of your concerns. It's the rain in the spring and summer (if anything) that would cause problems with a CAI.

That said, the real world risks of hyrdolocking with a CAI are about the same as breaking an aftermarket wheel or having an aftermarket strut blow. In other words, it happens now and then but it's barely even worth worrying about.
