How much will a K&N filter affect my car?

I have had a K&N filter in my last 3 vehicles and have been thinking of putting on in my new M3GT. It would be nice to put in a full intake but it's just not in the cards right now.

I was looking for data online that would tell me if it was worth putting in the new filter instead of leaving the stock one. Anyone have experience with the K&N filters in the newer M3s?

Thanks.

I'M OFFENDED!
The filter isn't the big problem with the mz3- it's that stupid airbox. You'd see bigger gains from taking the lid off it and ziptying the filter down if you're not going to do a full intake. That being said, I like K&N for if nothing else, that it's easy to clean and reuse.

Yeah, I noticed the air box is poorly designed. $50 for the K&N seems like a fair price to give it a try. I'm guessing I won't notice too much of a difference in performance. I am wondering how it will affect gas mileage though.

Probably not a ton unless you really romp on it routinely. Modern cars are pretty good about keeping a target fuel mixture. All said and done, buy it for the fact that it's reusable and will save you money in the long run--any performance and/or fuel economy benefits will most likely be inconsequential.

Good to know. This is by far the newest vehicle I have ever owned. My previous car was a 2002. I think I'll be picking one up in the next couple days. Thanks for the insight.

Put in the K&N filter last night. Seems like it lets the engine breathe a little better. Sometime next summer(2013), I may put in a full intake and then compliment it with new exhaust. :)
