So recently the Onkyo TX-SR606 we have had since 08/09 (i think) has been unbearable to deal with. The problem we had is that the "handshake" between the receiver and the TV (HDMI or Components) has gotten progressivly worse. Everything seems to work just fine except for the fact that we don't get a singnal to show up on the TV 90% of the time anymore. When we do, it's only after letting the POS sit for an extented period of time or cycling the thing on and off or thorugh different inputs.

So the point of this thread is to post what you have currently or have used in the past and your thoughts on it. What would you look at picking up if on a budget, $200-$300?. What about on the higher end, $500+?

It may sound obvious, but have you tried using a different HDMI cable between the receiver and TV? Believe it or not, but I've had various cables "go bad" over the years.

Yes, we've tried different HDMI cables and different TVs and it's the same issue. It's a known issue with this particular Onkyo model, and it's out of the 2 year warranty period (purchased in 11/08). I've emailed Onkyo to see if they'll do anything. From what I've read in Audio forums, the HDMI board goes bad on these.

Hmm. I have an Onkyo, don't remember the particular model off hand, but I hope I don't start having these issues. That sucks.

My Pioneer VSX-1020K has been incredible. Granted, it hasn't been beaten much but I bought something I knew would last and I could build around. Eventually I'll upgrade the speakers and really test it but so far no complaints. It's on BB's site for $550 but I got it for $280 otherwise I'd say check out the lower model Pioneer receivers and see if you can work with something.

Overall, just seemed to have plenty for what I want it to do. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the Wii and xBox to work right for some odd reason (360 via HDMI and Wii via RCA), but the blue ray player works smooth as can be.

Also, the info on my speakers, nothing fancy or expenses, but in the downstairs space, I think they do the job quite well
