As i decided to ditch the full forged internals idea due to budget and the fact I want to supercharge it as well. That being said, I need to find a good local place to send the head out for work. I know aj had mentioned someone. Id like to know if anyone knows of a good possibly affordable place that will do the head on the 1.6 miata engine.

Honestly there's not much point to doing any port/polish/cams on this motor unless you're looking for over 300whp. And you won't hit that with a supercharger.

But i can't say no to a nice set of cams, so do what you're gonna do. :)

Well I want as much power as I can safely get without too much block work. The supercharger is capaple of over 300. The closer I can get to 250, the better.

Well, right.... But more power is more power. To a point, it doesn't matter how you do it, you still have the same limitations.

The 1.6's limit is around 250whp. Just because you have head work doesn't mean that limit is magically moved to 280whp. :D

Just swap pulleys and run more boost.


What supercharger are you going with again? I don't think i've ever seen a supercharger on a miata that was capable of making over 300hp on a miata.

NOOB QUESTION ALERT!

So this has little to do with headwork but I have a few questions.

1.)
I've pretty much made up my mind on getting the begi cold side 1.6 supercharger for the miata. I'm also pretty convinced on getting the megasquirt pnp. So my question is... while the motor is out already, should I strap on the sc and toss it in all ready to go.
OR
Should I put the rebuilt motor in with all the normally aspirated stuff on with the mspnp back, in tune it, and run it for a while before I connect all the boost?

2.) I know this isn't the miata forum. But I was wondering. if anyone knew or had an estimate of how much power a "basically" stock block can handle without issue.

I just don't have enough engine experience to attack this without further knowledge. so thanks.

1) I'd just do it all at once. You can set your idle/start up settings to be just like stock and it should be fine, since there won't be positive pressure at idle anyways. :) No sense in tuning twice, unless you want to do so for the experience.

2) It's a 1.6. 250whp on a GREAT tune is about all you're going to get without going POP and i doubt that supercharger will push that much air into a 1.6 anyways. :) I'd be surprised to see much over 200whp with that kit.

200hp is my goal. If I go over, super. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to put a shit ton of labor and money into building the engine and then have the pistons/rods/crank asplode on me first time I boost. And yeah with the megasquirt I should be able to just get any situations figured out right off the bad. Thanks for the help!! :D
