Right on man thanks. I might have to put together a "help Hayden with the miata bbq" event sometime this spring lol. I've got A LOT of work coming up. Engine view back in, custom wiring harness/tuck, and much more.

S'more updates! Warning... PICS!

Once the head was off, the block teardown began.

Gross...

Rolled her over to remove the oil pan.

Due to a "mounting" problem with the stand, I had to improvise.

After an hour of wrestling the oil pan off due to rtv sealer and the stupid slosh tray or whatever, it's off.

Hard to see, but pistons are out.

And crank is out and I have a shell of a block.


And my internals all laid out and ready for some lovin'

And lovin' is what I gave them

Pistons got a deep cleaning to get the gunky carbon build up off of them.


And lastly, my rebuild kit came in courtesy of Flyin' Miata.

So that's the engine. Currently residing at renown performance to recieve a port, polish, valve job, and resurface of the head, including new valves, retainers, springs, seals, etc. Also, the block is getting cleaned, honed, decked, and painted with new freeze plugs. Was hoping to get it back before I left for AZ on friday but who knows.

I've been staying busy. To catch up:
Lights finally came in

All of my parts came in from renown-performance which included new control arm bushings, brake rotors pads and stainless lines, my new set of gauges, and new clutch and pressure plate.

Also got some new endlinks and electric exhaust cutout from riceland.


Also have been working on the body work. Front fenders and rear spoiler are being shaped.



Started mocking up my new gauge cluster housing.

Engine is back from renown and under reassembly


Got the oil pan and valve cover cleaned and painted too.

Thanks guys.

Well i went picked up the new locator pins for the block because the machine shop lost them. So I could finally get the newly built head mounted up.





So next up on the agenda is to get the new water pump on, get the idler and tensioner pulleys on, and get the timing belt on. Then I have to get all of the other acc. stuff on the block along with new clutch, clean and paint tranny, and attach it to the motor and get it the hell in the car and running.

Block is already painted grey and ill leave the head just raw and cleaned. Tranny, vc, oil pan, and some other stuff will be white. Engine bay and most other stuff will be painted black.

Turbocharger is ordered! Engine will be going back in early next week and we will see if we can get her to fire. All that's left is to get the flywheel resurfaced. Put on the new clutch and pressure plate and the flywheel. Bolt the Tranny on and bolt it into the car.

Got the tranny all painted up and ready to go.


Got the flywheel back from the machine shop.


And got the intake mani painted up and mounted.

5w for the first short break in. But I'll be switching to 15w. Should take away some of the ticking. If not. Its new lifters I guess. The valve clearances are not adjustable for 97 and earlier.

Yeah, that's some heavy click'n and tick'n for just oil to impact. Hope it works out but I think you're in line for new ones with that, hopefully it works out though.

Yeah the ticking has gone away slightly now after breaking it in a little bit. The na 1.6 is just a ticky motor. Once I run a little higher viscosity oil through it, it should sound just fine.
In other news. Fiberglassing of the front fenders has begun at last. Also, the side skirts are in the shaping process.
