Fuel pump upgrade question

As some of you may know, since switching to an air-water IC setup, I've been tending to push a bit lean at high rpms (>5000). The obvious choice to correct this is to purchase a tuning solution. Most likely, that would be a SplitSecond AFC (~$400). However, I'm inclined to purchase an upgraded fuel pump first (walbro 255lph ~$120), to address the possibility that my stock pump just isn't keeping up... higher fuel pressure at the same injector duty cycle could well solve my leaning out. If nothing else, it would give me peace of mind that I'd have the fuel available for any future mods.

Any reason not to go for the fuel pump first? I'm mostly looking for reassurance that my reasoning is sound, and that I'm not being unduly influenced by the idea of going for a cheaper modification first....

I was in the same boat. I think it's the next logical step for you. If you plan on modding more, you'll have the reassurance that you'll have enough fuel to support the mods. If you don't mod more, you'll know that you can keep up with the addition of more air.

If you get a tuning solution you'll just find out if you're actually experiencing a lean condition - you'll still want to correct the problem.

I wish my fuel pump was that cheap. I'm not installing my new internals though, as it seems half are junk. I'm still hovering around 1700psi at WOT so that's solid enough...for now.
