First good cleaning of spring--Like finding coal in my stocking on X-mas

Well, I started giving my car the first good cleaning of the spring, and I noticed a series of sickeningly-large scratches along the lower half of my driver's side. A weird squiggly one on my front fender, a patch of fairly deep ones on my front door, and a patch of light ones on my rear door/fender. I have a feeling it's my own fault though, for not using the touch-free washes.

Stupid Walser giving me all these stupid discounts for stupid Super America so that I earn shitloads of stupid Speedy Rewards points and use them on stupid free carwashes with stupid brushes that scratch up my poor little car. Strange thing is I had been using the exact same wash ever since I got my car and never had a lick of damage before. Must've all happened during one visit....

I'm going to go out and finish cleaning her off now. I'll post up a few pics when I get back in.

Nothing a good buff job and a thick coat of wax cant fix hopefully.

Yeah, the ones toward the back will probably buff out, but the ones in front catch your fingernail pretty well.

Ah well, 2 years and 40k miles, and you have to expect some battle scars

that sucks dude. i hate the swirl marks those auto car washes give....
im thinking of getting the car professionaly detailed and then a coat of paint protectant stuff put on after a good wax.

true, but im really ocd when it comes to clean car (the exception being winter, your finger art is the evidence!)

Yep... I have the same OCD problem when it comes to cleaning my car... I never use the car washes that arent touch-free. I would rather wait and wash my car by hand when its 40 degrees out. I am also looking into getting a professional buff job done to hopefully get rid of the swirl marks the previous owner left me. I have waxed the car many times but I just cant seem to do it. Anyone know of any good detailing places?

Check out the detailing thread speed6guy started. He's got a pretty solid foundation for how do a thorough detail of your ride, from claybar, all the way through quick-detailer.

Wax won't get rid of swirl marks, unless they are miniscule. You're probably best off using some rubbing compound and/or polish, followed by a good wax.

You mean speed6guy. He runs a detailing shop IIRC.

I forget how much the service contract on my 3 cost (I want to say around $1200)... but once I get that refund check, half is going into savings and half is going into mods. I'm thinking I need some suspension bits first...
