Directional tires need to be installed correctly

...but apparently one of the techs at Morries doesn't know that. I had gotten my wheels replaced under warranty due to paint bubbling a few months ago. I was putting more air in the tires this morning and realized one of them had the tread facing the wrong way. I've probably put 2,000 miles on the car with the tire like that, hopefully it didn't cause it to wear excessively. Monday morning the car's going back in to have them remount the tire.

So, if you ever have to have your wheels/tires worked on, give the car a once-over before leaving the parking lot.

I wouldn't be too worried about accelerated wear especially after only 2000 miles. Was it on the front or rear?

The front for about 1,000 miles, then I rotated the tires and it's been on the back ever since.

I had the same issue with Discount tire when I purchased my second set of wheels/tires. Luckily I noticed when I went to swap them. Let them know that should not happen.

Yeah, I took the car back in today and Morries remounted the tire. I'm checking before I leave the lot from now on though.

It can be tricky for a tire guy these days you got your directional tires and then you got your inside outside specific tread patterns and then you have some tires that are both. So when they are banging out tires all day there can be mistakes made.

Quit the bitchin, you're obviously supposed to drive the car backwards, how is it the installers fault? sheesh.

True, but on the Exaltos it simply has "ROTATION -->" printed on the sidewall. That, and they did the other three tires correctly.

Interestingly, my gas mileage seems to have dipped while the tire was on backwards. I was doing about 27mpg with it backwards, now I'm back to abut 29.

It's just alot to keep track of in your mind all the time so it is easy to see how they could miss one. never the less good you got it fixed and good you got your mileage back. I used to do tires for a living and if you asked me right now to put un a set of four directionals I would have to think about it for a while it's like a little brain puzzle.

ps what car do you have? An MS3? If so that is great mileage. I get about 26 on cruse control at 70.

mrwebster has 2.3 automatic sedan. 29mpg is kick ass. I don't have enough self restraint to better 23 in my ms3.

The guy at Discount told me my tires are not directional. But i think they are inside ouside spusific. They are parada spec 2s.

Look at this and tell me that6 shouldn't be directional.

Everything I have ever seen on directional tires... They have an arrow on the sidewall pointing which way they are supposed to be mounted.

I have little sympathy. If tires is your one function, mistakes should be extremely minimal. You should be an "expert" and be able to know how to mount and double check your work if you're a "tire guy."

Tires are not something to take lightly, whether mounting, balancing, or torquing the lug nuts. If it's your job you better do it right or someones safety could be at stake. If I build decks all day I'd make damn sure I didn't forget to properly bolt in the railing or I'd lose my job.

I agree. They wouldn't put a single groove off center like that unless it was designed to grip a certain way, either inside of the wheel or outside. (which once they are mounted on a wheel basically makes them directional)

I can't see anyway that groove could be on the outside of say your front tire and the inside of your rear tire.
