Anti-virus and protection for xp box

What's everyone using for anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-spyware/anti-hantavirus software for their PCs?
Had a Norton trial for 30 days, it worked but part of me felt like it was a little "over-bearing" and taxing on the hardware...

I use Avira for anti-virus and Zone Alarm for a firewall. Can't say I've had an issue with either, but I'd also be interested to hear more opinions....

I'm curious too... my McAfee subscription is expiring and need a free replacement. (It came bundled with the computer no extra charge)

if you have comcast internets you can get mcafee anti virus fo free.

I use spybot search and destroy and norton antivirus(free subscribtion)

edit - I do not like nortion antivirus with all its extra add ons. I do really really like spybot.

I've had the best luck and the best performance with Trend Micro Internet Security.

Reason being: my WoW gaming account got hacked a while back. The computer I was using was running McAfee. I ran a full scan and it found nothing. I then went to Trend Micro's free online scan (housecall.trendmicro.com) and it came up with something like 17 different security issues. Ever since then I've gone with Trend Micro and never looked back.

My favorite is Sophos, but that's only available for schools and large companies. Otherwise, AVG Free is a good choice, as is Trend Micro.

Anything Symantec/Norton puts out is crap. Avoid it at all costs.

I have Norton 360 v.2 and it is taxing on the system. The bells and whitsle are cool, but it's always telling me to sign up for an online storage account with Norton. Then again I am running vista with only 4 gigs of ram.

Only 4 gigs of RAM? Thought you need like 80 for vista
The xp box I speak of is a Dell Mini 10 with 1gig ram. Out of sight, out of mind anti-virus preferable.

I switched from Avira to AVG last night. The AVG virus scans seem less taxing on the system. I don't think the footprint of the resident program is much different though. in case you care...

I actually switched from AVG to Avira a month or two ago and like it a fair bit better. Either is a solid option though IMO.
