I'M OFFENDED!
So here's the short of it. As much as Wagners was pretty awesome food wise, and the owner really didn't care what we did, it was just entirely too far away for a LOT of us, and the overall attendance was poor- at best. So for the time being, we're bagging that. I have spoken with what was the other half of MNMazda (old timers remember Porkys) and they said it'd be alright if we rejoined them, so that's what is going to happen. New meet spot is Sonic on American Blvd in Bloomington. First meet is theoretically this wednesday night, @around 6pm. I intend on trying to make it, barring any sort of disaster- to at least scout it and see what's up. Anyone else?

6pm in Mexico? Probably out unless I end up with meetings that force me to stay down that way late enough that it makes sense. We'll see.

Yep. Absolutely, the more the merrier! Just behave yourself or you'll ruin it for everyone. Without going into detail, Porkys kinda got blown out the last year because of people bein' tards.

Possible, but not as likely. Main reason being it's kinda out of the way for a lot of people, and that was the big issue with Wagners. Had nothing to do with the venue, more the location of said venue. If it were not in Canada, we'd likely still be at Wagners.

Out of the way? It's just as central as Sonic.

Going by our traditional map of the cities, Sonic is in Mexico, and that drive-in is in.... like, Vegas.

Yeah, Tom your concept of 'out of the way' is wack - Not as convenient for you? Yes...but as Jay said just as central (right on the 494/694 loop).

Heck yeah! I'd totally be down for SLP rather than Bloomington, and the bonus would be that we wouldn't be jumping on some other club's bandwagon. I know we all know a lot of the people there, but if we're trying to move mnmazda forward, I'd vote for a venue in SLP over a meet that some other club has staked out a year earlier. Now that my girls are getting a bit older (read: not as needed/high maintenance), I'll be able to make more meets this Summer too.

Duly noted. There has been some grumblings over this decision- and I understand. But I have to look at it from an exposure standpoint. When I rolled in last night, there was probably 6-7 cars there that SHOULD be on our board. A few FC's, couple Miatas, etc etc. We don't get that kind of exposure elsewhere. The simple fact of the matter is, Wagners was kind of a bust. The meets were PITIFUL. We had no exposure, it was a helluva drive for a lot of us due to coming directly from work, and the location was while good- in the wrong area for what we were trying to do. One thing people forget as well, as far as i'm concerned, MNMazda CREATED Wed. night meets. It all started with the same 4-5 cars every wednesday at porkys. As people moved on to other cars, they started meeting more folks. I met a LOT of enthusiasts via word of mouth, and subsequently they joined or at least made some of our meets. Those people brought friends, etc etc. Fact of the matter is- we cannot survive as an exclusive wednesday meet for Mazdas. It just isn't practical. Even when Porky's attendance was GOOD, we struggled to hit 10 cars. Now Porkys was about as central as Sonic is- so that was NBD for a lot of us. Wagners was less so, and SLP at least knowing what I do know of our demographic, isn't much better. Damn near everyone passes through Bloomington at some point during the day though, so Sonic makes sense. Joelle's also been really smart, and they warn Sonic ahead of time so they know that there's going to be a lot of people coming through, so they have extra staff and food ready to rock and roll. Personally, I like it. I think this is our move. I think if we set up in one area as our group, it's not going to be a huge issue. One thing I did notice, the vibe is a LOT different than the trainwreck we had the last year at Porkys. One flatbillin' brotato did a burnout shortly before I left, and he was very clearly told to GTFO, and don't come back. It's obvious to me that the head folks of the different groups there are in no mood for that kind of garbage.

Didn't see it posted but noticed the reference to 'some other club's bandwagon'. Pretty sure the MNSubaru group meets at the same Sonic in Bloomington on Wednesday evenings.
