Feeler: Cruise/Road Trip to Drive some Amazing Roads?

Just thinking outloud and wondering if there is anyone here that would want to take an extended cruise/road trip just for the sake of hitting up some great drives in another part of the country.

An example would be TN. I know that seems long, but a 4-5 day road trip would work to tackle some of the fantastic roads in that areas. If I recall there are roads named "The Snake" & "The Dragon".

I know there is lake of the dragon or some shit like that around the great lakes.

I would love to do something like this, and I think we should look at setting up a srs bzns road trip for next year.

Well here's the deal. IF this is going to happen, someone needs to commit to taking the lead and drive it home. We don't get a damn thing done by committee on this site. lol

Tail of the dragon seems to make the most sense, I'd love to be part of it. If we started planning now something either fall or next year should be do-able (probably next year to allow people to budget vacation and cash).

pretty good location and easy access to fun roads.

I could spear head this one for planning, would just need to get some serious input about the following:

Time - late fall 2011, late spring (Early summer 2012), or Summer/fall 2012?
* I'd have to vote for late spring as the weather will be nice in that area hopefully, but we can discuss options here

Cost - this ties into length of trip and hotel options.

Schedule - I'm guess we'd want to hit this type of route when there is as little traffic as possible, thinking weekday. This would also tie into the day we leave MN, head, making a route like "The Dragon" the primary goal, yet schedule other events/routes around it. Be it an amusement park, some kind of mega go-kart thing, or even a possible Twins game in another stadium (as an example).

can you shed some light on the trip you took, how long, and what it consisted of?

Fall 2012 would be my vote... most of my vacation this year is already spoken for... and this trip will likely be expensive to, so planning ahead for that would also be nice.

thur we drove from the cities to indiana, fri was indiana to the hotel, fri night was drinking/planning. sat was running the dragon, lunch, split groups running the dragon/skyway, hour-ish break and then a skyway run around 6ish, food/shennanigans. left sunday around 9ish and made it to the cities monday at 1am.

might have been more, but that should be close. i remember being in 4 different cars while on runs.

Yeah, I think 2012 will have to be the year, but I think spring or fall, either would work. Even if in the late spring, that should be time to save some cash up (clear CC room :)) and stock some PTO up. Costs are going to include splitting hotel rooms, gas, and fudz for sure, and then whatever people spend on other items.

Kris, that seems like a lot to get in in one weekend... lol I'm thinking we make the dragon the main attraction, but let's also see what else we can hit up, plan a nice big cruise. Just making sure we hit a Waffle House up at some point as well! :D lol

Is it safe to say at this point, if we lock down a date range in the next 2-3 weeks we won't have a problem with scheduling conflicts?

And Picklz has to have a Vette by then.... right? :)
