Weekly Meets Facelift?

mndsm

I'M OFFENDED!
They always shove the imports back in the corner anyhow, I don't think anyone that actually walks that far back (presumably to look at said imports) will see it as tacky. Might actually be GOOD for them too, since I saw a lot of the RK garbage back there, and we'd actually be classing up the joint.

just to clarify, when i said "I would like to have C&C to go to on the first Saturday of every month" i didn't mean as a mnmazda thing. I just said that for meet planning purposes. if i said "i'd like to go to RK meets on monday" i don't mean make it a mnmazda meet. so yea, please don't plan meets on the first saturday of the month or on mondays

EDIT: oh and my sig picture was from C&C so apparently someone thought my car was nice enough to take a picture. lol

^^^ I agree. It's nt going to hurt anything to have a MNMazda presence their if possible. And those that want to can show up, those that don't can skip that event. I think having half-dozen Mazdas lined up and maybe a small tasteful banner dangling from an opened hood and some business cards would help increase presence. You'd look "classy" as Tom says and organized which would set Mazda apart from the rest.

As someone who works on Uni and Prior (right by the Menards), I can tell you they are already doing work and closing lanes here and there. So, Porkys will probably become a pain to get to anyway. What better time then to mix it up.

I like the idea of keeping a weekly meet for those than can attend and getting a regular weekend meet to hopefully address those that can't make it during the week. I wouldn't change the weekly meets to bi-weekly as another factor for me and others I'm sure is weather. If the weather is fantastic I'm more inclined to get out and enjoy than if it's cooler and a chance for rain etc. That's why it'd probably work better to keep a weekly meet and members can gauge weather etc. and choose to attend or not without needing to say/schedule whether there's a meet or not for a particular week.

The C&C folk are a bit different than I think most of you seem to think. about 80% of people there are either in eurowerks or MNSC, theres a very small number of people there that have high end exotics, in fact most of those are brought down by dealerships to try and sell them. But I also know as tom said, a LOT of people I know from porsche said they cant wait to see my car down there, and my car is by no means a high end exotic.

The folk there might seem snooty, but trust me, to all the ones i've been to, I've had no issue talking to anyone about their car. Theyve all been very respectful and extremely nice. Theyre all enthusiasts, just like us. And even an FD is a 15k import nowadays =P Yes they love theyre exotica, but they have all seemed to have an interest in all price bands of cars there.

I say we go there just to be seen really.

Being a newb here I can't offer anything but my $.02. There's obviously some history with these meets I have no clue about - good, bad or indifferent.

My situation is an extremely busy schedule with my kids (full time single dad) and am lucky to have one, maybe two days "free" a month. BUT, would certainly attend (prefer)/ be involved in a monthly type of meet (doesn't have to be kids centric at all). So I kind of fall under the kids/older crowd (if that even exists here?). That's my world and is what it is. It's all good:)

Hey, I'm laid back and all about meeting people, talking about all things cars, racing, music, life, grilling, cocktails, kids etc..:)

So if I fit, cool. If not, that's cool too.

It's nice to see some posting action going on, honestly the chatbox has turned me off from mnmazda a bit, but that's a different story...
This last year I've been busy with grad school and a job that is trying to eat my soul. Let's make 2011 an awesome year for mnmazda, i'm ready to start hitting some weekly and monthly meets, and break out my weber and grill some burgers for everyone!

You definitely "fit" SteveO. We just need to figure out how to arrange the type of meet you might feel comfortable bringing your kids to in case that helps give you a few more opportunities to get out and meet up with everyone. Looking forward to getting a chance to meet you sometime this Summer, along with many of the other newer members.

Kids/married is actually more common around here than you'd think. All but one of the mod staff are married (Jay technically isn't, but he's been with Nanami long enough to qualify by MN common-law standards) Nate has kids, I have one on the way, Pete has kids, AJ has a kid, Luke has a kid, Andy has one on the way... these are all d00ds we see on a fairly regular basis. So yeah, bring em along.

Ditto, thanks. Looking forward to meeting MNmazda people.

That's great to hear. Cool. Again, it isn't imperative to have kids along. I would probably prefer at times to be solo anyway to get a break. Friggin crazy times. AND my F!@#%^** snow blower is broke today after 12yrs.....of all days. Arghh.

LOL, mine broke 5 min into plowing the last big storm so we called a service. Took the old beast to a guy in SE MPLS to get it all overhauled and fixed up and now I'm ready to rock.

Word of advice, with a storm like this, fuck the shovel, call a service. You'll find some good leads on CL. That's what I did during the last big storm, best $50 I EVER spent dealing with snow!

lol....srsly, the failbox can get pretty vulgar and the conversation isn't anything anyone would care to read about in a newspaper of any sort. I've spent my time in the box too, so I'm not throwing stones per se, but ultimately it's a toy for members much more than something that might entice a new member to join. If anything, it probably scares some potential members away.

Yeah, we're pretty nasty in there sometimes. But we've never really were like GTFO to n00bs, like some other sites I won't mention.

Have to go ahead and disagree, first off, MNSC maybe has like 8-9 members that are there showing cars and of them none of them are there to rep mnsc, I would know. Second, the cars that are there are mostly owned by the people who rent from the complex (which is not cheap to rent) and have quite a bit of money. So many other forums are constantly complaining about the influx of "4 door grocery getters and low end imports that think they can just turn it into Uni" that have come in the last year including some of the organizers of C&C itself. So if MNMazda, or any car club for that matter, wants to make a showing at C&C I would recommend recruiting the cleanest and most well done cars, I am sure they would enjoy and support other car clubs coming to the event and showing, but they also don't want it to take away from the 'high end' show that it is supposed to be.

Also, even though cars like the FD are 15k imports now a days they are on a different scale than most other cars because they are RWD, Lightweight, Turbo, go-fast cars that are sought after.

Whatever. Opinions are always different. I'll be there for sure sporting the RX7.

I definitely know which cars youre talking about "trying to turn it in to uni". I've seen many cars there that have made me say "wtf" lol. But last I checked, theres a guy at the entrance who can choose whether or not you get in. I'm not so sure about the many people there own garages there though. I'm pretty sure that whole middle section is made of Eurowerks and MNAudi, and I dont think many of them own garages there. Same with the imports section, and the one the Maserati dealership brings down.

We're obviously way off topic here, but I drew a ton of attention in the MS6 at C&C from every demographic - the younger teens, the 'out of the ricer stage' 20-somes, the family-oriented but still want a quick and fairly lux sedan guys, the old-timers and everything in between. Now, that could be attributed to nearly no one knowing what the hell it was, the fact that it was 98% blacked out, or it could've just been the car a lot of people could see themselves owning (which honestly, it really was a great 'for the masses' type of vehicle that just never caught on).

Now the 'vette gets its share of attention, but it's a 'vette. Everyone knows that. It's a car that's seen nearly every day in the summer, and attached to it is a history - a public knowledge. No one seeks me out asking what it is or the nit and gritty type of info. I'd share with people asking questions on the MS6. I really do miss chatting about the MS6 in that way.

Ultimately, it's Tom's decision to decide what role MNMazda should play at C&C and he's aware enough of everyone's opinions even if you haven't shared them. Support the direction he takes with this, and any other event, and together we can all make this the forum we want it to be.
