Pedal or motorcycle would probably help someone help you. I am looking for a road/hybrid peddle bike myself.

I'm going to be looking at one as well when my car sells as another form of exercise. I've gone to Eriks's in Maple Grove to look around and it's probably where I'll go back to.

I'm just about done building mine, just gotta order brakes, pedals, and a few other misc items. If you end up getting one Ivan we should hit some trails around here sometime once I get mine done.

That's really going to depend on where and what type of riding you want to do. if your going to be 95% pavement with the occasional dirt road or hard packed trail a hybrid might be a good way to go, if you want to tackle some more off-road type stuff then a front suspension (hard tail) mountain bike might be nice, and if you want to do some free-ride or downhill then a full suspension would be the way to go.

Yeah, if you want Full Suspension most the stuff under 1k is sketchy, you can get a nice quality hard tail (front suspension) for ~$500. Really unless your bombing 5 foot + drops and doing downhill stuff I prefer a Hard tail.

Well, you could probably get a decent used bike for $50 if all you want to do is tool around. I wouldn't drop more than $2-300 on a bike unless you know for sure you're going to use it all the time.

Sell that shit to ivan, man! Ivan, I retract my previous statement. "Nearly a grand" sounds just about right for your first bike purchase.

Yeah man, I have a Schwin Outback, I think. Anyway, it has no suspension other than my ass and I get by just fine with it.

Front suspension is really nice to have, but a full suspension has some downsides.

They are heavier, and some of the power you put into pedaling is lost / absorbed by the shock instead of propelling you forward, this can suck for climbing / going up hill. Higher end suspension designs and rear shocks deal with this better, some have lockouts for climbing too.

Nice entry level bikes are the Specialized Hardrock, Specialized Rockhopper, Cannondale F5/F7. There are some cheaper options also that don't have the big name to go with them but are quality. Really component makeup is more important than who makes the frame. This Alpine is a pretty solid setup, Deroe components, Avid Disc Brakes, nice fork, nice wheels, etc.

I'll see if I can find some more in the $300-400 range (new) when I've got some time.

I am planning to take a little ride tonight, I can't wait. Its so nice outside.
Eventually I'll get rid of my craptastic "hybrid" tires with something that can handle dirt.
