I am sure by now most of you have heard Obama's speach.

The problem is, most of the political stuff we hear is, in fact, BS. Most of what we hear about day-to-day, coming out of politicians mouths is complete and utter crap meant to placate people. Like this speech of his... who the hell cares? All this does is distract people from having to thing about anything of substance.

This is why Obama will not seperate himself from his pastor because to many black people want to hear his message of hate.

I'M OFFENDED!
That bothers me. It's perfectly OK for a minority to preach a message of hate and get away with it, but if I say one thing out of line, I can lose my job and go to jail. Slave reparations nothin', all bets are off when you keep acting like a jackass, which this pastor seems to have done.

See, and this is exactly why I think most of politics is BS. To hell with his political views or plans for being in office, let's take one single phrase out of context and blast it across every news outlet around. Hell, at this point I don't even care if he's a member of the Black Panthers.... lets just get the fuck over all this "race" BS.

holmstar, since the money is being paid, I am glad to hear your family received some real necessary benefit from it. However, I see a real ethical problem with government stealing money from one person just to give it to another they believe is more worthy of that money or needs it more. If people want to help those in need, they should do so with their own money rather than spend other people's money... it's a lot easier to spend other people's money, though.
Should we extend that philosophy to all government agencies? I don't believe my money should be stolen from me so that the government can spend it on depleted uranium warheads, or give it away as a subsidy to a oil company that is already making billions. Shouldn't we make those voluntary too?

Yes welfare is broken, I won't disagree with you there. It SHOULD be temporary. There should be incentive to get a job if you can. But if the difference is that one person has to by a regular car vs a luxury sedan so that another family can buy groceries, Id rather that the family had groceries. Keep in mind that before welfare existed, the situation was exactly as you would like it to be now, and the poverty rate was much higher then.

Lets face it, despite what people like to claim, most people are selfish and greedy. How many times have you stopped to help the guys on the corner with the cardboard signs that say "will work for food"? None right? I haven't either and that is exactly my point.

I never said we should not cooperate with other countries. What I said is we should not place ourselves under any form of international government. One can maintain their sovereignty and still cooperate with others, though we should determine intelligently when and if we do so.
So what is your definition of international government? The UN is essentially wrapped around our little finger as it is. They may be able to pass resoulutions we don't agree with, [edit] actually we can veto anthing we dont agree with, so that isn't really true [/edit] but the cant fund the resolutions without our money. The EU, while a powerful organization to be sure, is not going to force itself upon us. (Though I'd rather be paid euros than dollars right now) If you are talking about international treaties such as the kyoto protocal, well I have to say that some treaties are good even if they aren't the easiest things to comply with. Obviously they must be evaluated on a case by case basis, but some things are just so important that a legally binding agreement is needed so that individual leaders cannot do something that will harm the whole.

While I am disappointed in him for this stuff. I will say that we have had plenty of white people as president who are probly just as racist as Obama and it just doesn't come to the surface. So I will probly end up voting for Obama just because it's time we had a black president and he seems just as qualified as any of the other candidates.

I think that's a reasonable assessment--I'm sure there have been no shortage of Strom Thurmans passing through our governmental bodies, even recently. Also, as much as I hate to say it, I'd almost vote for an obama/clinton ticket just so that we could get over the country's obsession with being PC. Maybe once we get a black man and a woman in the white house, people will realize that it's no different than having a white man in the office, and we can get back to worrying about real political issues instead of skin color or the equipment between their legs.

I'm sure that's hopelessly optimistic, but at this point I'm frustrated enough to believe it... lol

The thing about a joint ticket with either hilary/obama or Obama/Hilary is that I don't know if either of their egos would beable to take being the vice president even though it would put them in prime position to get the presidency in 8 years possibly.
