Website help

Okay, I'm hoping that some of you guys might have some suggestions here. Basically, I accepted the responsibility of overseeing a redesign of our company's website, which is pretty simple at the moment. I'm reasonably happy with the work that was done (it was pretty bad before), but apparently this "professional" web designer is having the toughest time getting our site to look nice in both IE and Firefox. Firefox is especially important to us because we're in a technical field, and it seems to be far more common among computer-savvy people than even the roughly 15% of the general population that uses it.

So, my question is: does this guy have a good reason to be so hesitant about doing the work required to get the page to render the same in FF and IE? I mean, in this day I never see sites that don't render nearly identically in both browsers, and I'm having a hard time swallowing that such a simple website would present such a challenge--especially when it's mostly little things like spacing of stacked links/bulleted lists, and the style of the links.

Anyways, here's the address: www.receptorsllc.com For example, look at the index page in both browsers, and you'll see how (especially the bottom half) in FF it looks rough and unfinished. He didn't even test in FF, as the menu bar was completely non-functional, except in IE, at the time the site went live.

I have admin access to the account it's hosted on, so if it's absolutely necessary I can edit the code myself, but I'm not about to do that when I just got done paying someone for a job I don't believe he's finished. Comments and suggestions???

actually you've got issues in the IE version as well. The top menu wraps around so "contact us" which should be on the end at the right, goes all the way to the 2nd row on the left.

Hmm, are you using an older version of IE? I can't make it do that, even if I resize the window... I just get scroll bars.

I think your issue in IE is due to the layout being "fluid" as it will adjust with the size of the screen it's displayed on. Those are the only issues I can still see iwth FF and IE on that site, and on my laptop IE fucked up the top header with the "contact us" link due to it being fluid, while in FF it's perfectly fine. To confirm this, it's best to see it on two screens, about 3-4 inches in variance.

I would have him adjust some of those properties on all table widths to specific settings if he is worried, otherwise it looks fine.

One further question: I've been doing a small amount of research, and I've come across at least a couple of sources stating that the best way to code a website is to design for firefox first, and then tweak for functionality in IE, as you'll have a much easier time of it. Can anyone comment on that?
