So I fell outta the loop in terms of whats the best parts out for my MS3. Work/wife and modding the cobra has left the poor mazda alone and scared.

But now its time to work on it. What should I start out with, i am 100% stock

I was thinking this

1) Motor Mounts
2) Cobb intake
3) What hand held flash device..i thought i heard the Cobb one sucked?
4) What else?

Take note this is my DD, so I will be driving it in freezing weather. So any mods that dont play nice with cold i dont want.

Exhaust, intake, and a tuning device. No need for anything else till after that.

You'll want to search and talk to those who have had actual experiences with the units. Not those who have read about others experiences. Go to the source, or find a shop who doesn't want to sell you one unit, but only give you their view on what they've used to let you make your own choice. Otherwise stick to intake and exhaust and be done with it. Anything else and chances are your butt dyno will be lying to you. :) And I'm saying this as a former shop owner. Keep it simple and learn the car first. If there isn't a good tuning device out yet, wait. If you can't, get a different car or stick to the Stang.

Bring it to the next Dyno Day at MAP and get a base line, or base line it now, and mod it before the dyno day, and then bring it back for results. :D

My list is short, just an intake and a new shifter (not a performance mod obviously, but definitely a drivability mod). Motor mounts are probably a good option as well. Another thing to look into is a BPV/BOV. Supposedly the stock piece leaks, a new one that doesn't is supposed to keep the car pulling past 5500 rpms.

Check out www.mazda3forums.com for info on tuning options. CP-E and Cobb both have tuning options. CP-E looked like they had better gains, but you have to send in your ECU, where Cobbs allows you to swap maps on the fly.

Rumor has it too, Cobbs' new tuning unit will work more like the tuning CP-E has. Should be interesting.

I think I will stick with the intake, motor mounts, and some kind of shifter (I feel like I could easily snap the stock one in half).

I have also read that the stock BPV/BOV leaks, I dont really know where it is located either, I have not really had a chance to take some of the engine apart yet.

I really do need to get a baseline as well. Whens the next dyno day/.

I can wait, I have plenty to do with my mustang while it sits in storage this winter. Hopefully it should have 600 whp by next summer

Cobb's AccessPORT is supposed to essentially be CP-e's Standback, PnP, and FullControl Flash all-in-one, for only $700 compared to $2k +.

Do the research though. Compare and contrast what you like about each. Maps for upgraded turbo's should be coming soon on both models, if you ever go that route.

First mods: Intake, BPV, TBE, motor mounts. Then start thinking about ECU changes IMO.

The AccessPORT was a big fail on release. Almost NO power made... though I've heard rumor of improvements.

On release it flopped a bit. But from what I've read on M3F, the newer maps are making customers very happy.

Yeah I've heard complaints about it earlier for the MS3. I just saw they now have it for the MS6, haven't done much research on it but it seems pretty solid now.

Stock BPV is super easy to locate. If you have your hood popped, and you are looking right at the intercooler, it is at the South East corner of your intercooler cover. Its small, round in shape, and is black plastic. There is a large hose under running back to the intake manifold from it, as it recirculates all the air. I swapped mine out for a HBOV in about 5 minutes. Good luck with the modding! Let us know what you decide!

I replaced my rear motor mount with Street Units piece, which firms up the shifting feel and transmission slop without making the car rattle too bad...

What are some good Motor Mounts that wont feel too much different from the stock ones?

I got the corksport inserts. I could definitely tell a difference when I put them in. You can tell when you start your engine, the rest of the car jolts a little bit. However, I hear its much better than actually replacing the whole mount (In terms of shaking). Plus, its only about $25 and way better than nothing.
