So I called my dealership today about getting new tires installed on the mazdaspeed wheels I have and they highly recommend I don't don't it. Reasons that my fuel and wheel barring sensor would completely go off line. WTF???? Really? Can this be true? I know I have seen others with mazdaspeed wheels on a MZ3 2.5 so can anyone offer me advise on weather this is true? HELP PLEASE!!! It's going to suck big time if I have to sell the great MS3 wheels I just bought for the summer. :(

I got my Mazda from walser in burnsville and the only reason why I called them is because they sent me a coupon. Buy 3tires and get one free.

Odd. Well, you're not going to have any problems with an appropriately sized tire. However, I would also price out purchasing tires from Discount Tire or somewhere online like Tire Rack. Chances are even if you pay full price somewhere else it'll still be cheaper than a dealership promo like that.

+1 to Discount Tire. They'll match competitor's prices too, and actually know WTF they're talking about.

My guess as to what Walser was talking about was actually the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring) sensor; if your MS3 wheels don't have them, you'll need to buy them or else the TPMS light on your dash will always be on. Wheel speed sensor is actually the same as the ABS sensor, which is in the hub and not the wheel itself. Again, if you talk to Discount Tire they'll be able to set you straight. Walser may be OK to buy a car from, but their service department is full of morons.

Yea I've been pricing out at different places and I'd be a idiot if I went to the dealer for my tires and TPMS. They priced me at nearly $1000 for four DWS tires w/tires......let me think....UM NO!!!!

Another common solution to the TPMS sensor is electrical tape. About a 1" strip. Applied directly over the TPMS light :D

Discount Tire is alright, but the one over here in Plymouth has some pushy sales tactics. I knew the tires I wanted before I went in there, and they tried there hardest to talk me into the tires they regularly stock and that cost quite a bit more, but performed no better according to the research I had done. My guess is they may be paid on commission and trying to push the more expensive tires with the higher margins. Good place, just something to watch out for.

I'M OFFENDED!
They are and they aren't. More likely is they were getting a flat spiff on a certain brand (goodyear perhaps, because they're ALWAYS pushing goodyear) and the kid wanted a bonus. The one in WSP or the one in IGH have never pulled that shit on me, but then again, when ya walk in tell em you need 245/40 star specs and you pull out a wad, they stop asking questions.

Worst thing you can do is ask a dealership "Service Advisor" any kind of technical questions regarding modifications. They really dont know jack squat. The only guys that know anything are hidden from the public in the back actually working on the cars...they report to these "advisors" and it has made me laugh out loud a couple of times what gets lost in translation by the time it hits your ears at the service counters....

Yea thats what i figured. I really dont understand why any dealership that sells car that they know ppl mod n shit dosent know squat about it??? You would think a dealship like mazda or honda would have ppl there to answer questions about aftermarket parts for there cars.

Often what i've found is the sales people are aware of people modding the cars, but they won't talk to most people about it. When I start telling them what i've done to mine, they write stuff down, or are like "You can DO that to that car" and so on. More ignorance than anything. Most people there aren't in it for the cars, they're in it for the money.
