Mazdaspeed CAI to a SRI

Has anyone here turned their Mazdaspeed CAI into an SRI. Im curious to hear if anyone has run into any issues like this. To me the maf seems really close to the filter, but I'm not sure if that matters or not.

Don't know of anyone who has. But I've heard of people who have used it as a CAI in summer and then converted it to an SRI in winter to avoid water, etc. That was somewhere on one of the nationwide sites.

I guess I'm just trying to get facts because I'm a paranoid weenie. People post how easily they hydrolocked, then how it throws cels. Its just hard to figure out what is truth and what is the expanded stretched truth

I've ran my CAI for over a year with no problems. Out of all the people that have the CAI maybe only a handful at most locked up. If you drive thru a puddle deep enough to submerge your CAI, then maybe you deserve to have it locked up.

Probably 80-90% of the posts I see where people think they hydrolocked are some doofus who has no idea what hydrolock is--in reality they just sprayed a few drops of water over their MAF sensor and threw a CEL.

I'M OFFENDED!
I have to agree with the prior posts... I've only heard one confirmed case of Hydrolock on a 3 with a CAI, and that was a few years ago. Really, with hydrolock, you have to drive through a 2 foot deep freakin pond at full throttle to even have it be a consideration. Every member/friend i've ever known with a CAI has never had that issue. Now if it were me, and I were to buy either one, i'd just buy an SRI because they're loads cheaper, but if you've already got it, I wouldn't worry.

I got the MS CAI just because of dealerships. I had a fully modded MSP and the dealership LOVED me(That is TONS and TONS of sarcasm) I can't go into the dealership without get dirty looks from the service deparment. The sales deparment I made friends with everyone though. Hell I go there to talk to a couple sales guys when I'm bord. Walser Mazda

and what about this whole people running leaner situation. anyone here run into that problem

If you scroll down to the post from dmention7, you can see three dyno graphs. The first 2 are stock MS3s and the last one is my car. If you look at the A/F ratios, you can see that mine doesn't run as lean for as long (15:1).

Are you throwing a CEL constantly from your CAI? I have the Mazdaspeed CAI and no cats and I no longer throw a CEL. I got lazy and stopped disconnecting my negative terminal to reset the ECU and then the computer finally learned the parts and I don't throw a CEL anymore (it was for bad cats in the first place). If you are throwing a CEL, perhaps just leaving it for a little while will get rid of it? Let the computer adjust for it, it should go away...

I guess the MS3 computer is so complex that even Jorge from P&L (master Subaru tuner) is pulling his hair out over it. He said its the reason the AP took so long to get to market. He said he spent many hours on the phone with Cobb trying to help them figure it all out. I say just let it learn the parts if you are throwing a CEL...
