Lowering spring install

How difficult is it to install lowering springs myself, or should i just pay the extra money to get them done at a shop. and if the second option does anyone know how much it costs to get done at a shop?

I've never done it myself, but if you do decide to tackle it, I'd be down for lending a hand. From what I hear, springs are a pretty easy job as long as you have a few key tools such as a spring compressor.

I cant say I have done it on a Protege before, but we just did my buddie's Audi TT and it was not bad at all. Like Jay said though, make sure you have a spring compressor. You can rent one from Checker or whoever for no cost, just a security deposit.

I have some spring I need to get installed on my 3 too...maybe we can coordinate and have a "spring install day" or a mod day in general. I'm sure there are other people that have projects they'd like to tackle. PM me if you have a particular weekend in mind and maybe we can knock 'em out all at once. With a couple of people helping it shouldn't take more than 6 hours or so for both of them. 1fastmsp installed new rims on his earlier this year http://www.mnmazda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1419 so he would probably be a good person to talk to if you have questions and stuff too.

+1 Also, find someone with a P5 either locally or on a national site who has installed springs and ask for tips specific to that car. Overall install I've seen done before and it's fairly easy, but each car usually has its quirks.

Yea, not that hard to do. Did mine on my own, but with the entire suspension off my car. Still shouldn't be too hard, just take your time with the spring compressors and make sure you have them in the right spot on the springs.

I did it in my girl friends drive way and it only took 2 hours, including the trips to the parts store to get some lube
