Pull the mufflers and gut the resonators. Won't do jack for performance, but it'll sound a lot better.

Unless the OEM resonators are different, they are usually just an expanded section of pipe--nothing really to gut. But otherwise, yeah, have an exhaust shop replace the first muffler with straight pipe. (I'd keep the resonators, since they tend to cut down on the harsh fartcan sound)

also- on that topic i hear the stock air box is terribly restricting- any good cold air systems that you would suggest?

Intakes- my personal preference is the CP-E, though the head breather that hooks to the intake is kinda not right, so it messes with the intercooler cover. Cobb's been well noted around here, as well as longer ones from Injen and Mazdaspeed/AEM. The HKS is another option.

Personally, I prefer the SRi to the CAI. Simply because it's cheaper, easier to install, and offers the same power gains as a full CAI w/o the danger of hydrolock. All in all, it's preference.

depending on what you are looking for, you might have better luck with other forums. check out mazdas247.com / mazda6club.com / and 6crew.com for random speed6/6 parts for sale.

they're identical intake wise, other than the mounting points. I'd have to look at one up close to see if an ms3 one would work on an ms6. I know the installs are identical.

The Story Teller....
I know when cobb was being bastages and came out with the ms3 sri first, there were people buying them and fab'ing their own mounting brackets. I waited and go the one designed for the MS6. Worth the money man. Makes the car loud as shit.

Well, MAPerformance is a good place to start. They're local, forum sponsors, and tend to have some of the best prices around.

The only downside is they're not on here all that often, so you might be better off shooting them an email or giving them a call. Also, we've got a dyno day there coming up in a few weeks so you could always talk to them then.

MAPerformance is exactly who I would go to for anything they can get. Outside of that, I've had great luck with Street Unit. Mark doesn't play. Stay away from ProtegeGarage, Ken is a class double A douchecanoe.

+1

Don't be swayed by what you read on 247. There are as many complaints about PG as there are praises. But every complaint gets written off by forum members as an isolated incident or the buyer being a whiner. I'm sure Ken's a nice guy, but he just doesn't seem to have a great business sense. Never had a problem with SU though. And ironically, the exact inverse attitude is held about them over at 247. Every negative review gets flooded with "i told you so"s, and positive reviews get 2 replies and are never seen again.

tl:dr Don't waste your time with PG unless you have to. But you shouldn't have to because MAP can probably get it for cheaper. lol

well got the exhaust done, sounds great, pretty much unbolted the mufflers and put in just straight pipe, with necessary turns to get centered in the holes. not too loud but loud enough

Yeah, taking out a resi/cat or a muffler really opens it up, especially considering teh car has like, 10 of them.
