Cruise for Cancer

I would like everyone to take a look at these threads and see what you think we can set up for a cruise/fundraiser/kickass time for Minn07speed6.

First thread

Second thread

Read those and post your ideas here. the mod team can't do this one alone lets pull together and set something up.

We've been crossposted to mnsportcompacts!

Ideas one or a combo of these.
Large cruise around the 494/694 loop.
Car show with music and/or auction.

UPDATE- we have a website startedwww.mncruiseforcancer.com. It has not been designed yet, but we have the site paid for. There is also an FB group out there, so anyone that knows anyone, please share it. I'll try and get the link on here later tonight, but for now, anyone that's friended me can find it, or just look for "Cruise for Cancer" and a bunch of the MNMazda folks circling it.

UPDATE- Josh made the suggestion of doing the show portion of this at the old Grain Belt facility. I support this. Eurowerks has been running shows there for a while with great results, I suspect this is somewhere to investigate.

UPDATE- Sounds like Eurowerks is in. I'm going to work with Jon in getting a hold of the top dogs over there, and see what it's going to take to secure the Grain Belt facility for the show. Sounds like they roll deep too, so we're probably looking at 50 cars to caravan to Rochester. We need to pin a date on this........ I think I'll try and get it locked down once I figure out what needs to happen for Grain Belt. Also, website is up and running. No content yet, BUT- soon.

UPDATE- I have decided on a date, at random. August 7th. that's the date. Now we need the place.

UPDATE- New forum up and running. Feel free to register and start to post. Cruise for Cancer forum

In. I'm willing to do whatever, wherever, whenever. I lost my aunt to cancer last year so I'm all for this.

As I've mentioned previously with this one- This is probably the time we go epic big. I think if that benefit goes down, we need to be there, #1. #2- this is probably a halfway decent time to squash the rest of the beefs with the other import clubs out there. We have a lot of guys that are cross clubbing with Eurowerks, Mitsustyle, ETC. I'd love to see 100+ roll wherever.

Probably a good time to see what Morries/TP/MAP is down for too. If we're gonna want a favor, this is the favor to want. We could probably sell shirts/stickers/fun shit too. Silent auction for some swag, maybe roll it into the Bikini wash idea.....

If we do some sort of cruise and after-party kind of thing, I can probably get a DJ and sounds and light gear for nothing. Maybe meet at a bar of some place with a big parking lot after to show of some cars and host a silent auction.

I know a guy who manages Walmart and he could maybe talk to a manager from a area here and we could use the parking lot for the show. I think we need to make this epic with a large cruise maybe around the 494/694 loop (maybe with police escort as to keep everyone cool). we could send a couple cars (guys from the south side would be best) to go get Minn07speed6 from Hayfeild and he could join us here.

Lets talk about time. I am thinking late June or mid July.

Lets toss out ideas for a meeting place too.

I will update the first post with the ideas.

He's in Rochester now, so it would be on me to go fetch him, and I'm totally cool with that. If we could run a train of cars down there, and have someone extra to drive him in his whip on the way back, that would be perfect. MAP might actually not be a bad place to do this, since we could probably sell dyno runs and stuff, and make that work out. Maybe contact someone that knows how to run an autocross, and see if we can get them in on it, so we can do something like that. Crooked drags would be cool too (Basically side by side autocross, fastest time wins).

I agree that having a caravan would be cool... and Rochester probably is about the same for me as it is for you, even though I cut across on 46, I'm further south to start.

I agree about trying to make this a "palooza". I don't have a lot of connections, but let me know on things.

I can probably post this up on a Freelance Car site I just launched. He gets a crap ton of traffic by car enthusiasts.

Designs, flyers, etc I will gladly help with. We have a connection in Kinkos so I can get stuff printed.

Do we have a large parking lot by map? That we could use for drag/autox? I like this idea.

I like the Cruise/Show & Shine idea if we can get a spot with a big lot. Make it epic!

Although drag/autocross sounds cool, I have to wonder about the logistics of that...Insurance, permits, location, etc.

Ok, since my ideas are all over the place, ima try and herd some of them in here.

1.- cruise to pick dude up. This is a given. Roch is about an hour from me, if that. I'm a guarantee for wanting in on that one. We could even stage up at any number of locations near my place and roll out as a group. highway access is easy, so we shouldn't get split up. One thing I had thought of was- his car. Seems to me, if it's a cruise for the gentleman, and he does like his car, we should do our damndest to see that he enjoys it in that car. I'd assume that it has ins/plates on it, so that ought to take care of that as long as we're given permission. Otherwise, we'll just insure it for a day or two (I can do that, no scratch to me) and work it out that way. That means we need an extra driver that is willing to ride along. My wife may be willing to do that, barring idea# 2 getting in the way.

2.- Other clubs. Seems to me we could scare up a whole LOAD of cars for a cruise/show/whatever. I'd be willing to bet our recent interactions with some of the dub clubbers and other Euro dudes would get us that. We could probably get the MNMiata club in on it, as long as we got contact info from Morries. Anyone else that has connections to other car clubs (t4d, the drifters, etc) should get that cookin' if the timing works. I can see if Taya knows anyone at the Mini group anymore, or call up my dude Charlie and see what he can scare up. Motorwerks owes me a favor anyhow.

3.- Website. Joelle is our point lady on this. She does this for a living, and has already volunteered her services. I don't know what hosting would cost us, but if a few of us chipped in, shouldn't be more than a couple $$$ each.

4.- Food. Food is good. We should probably have some sort of consumables at wherever we set up. If we gotta cook ourselves, we're gonna need a grill. And probably some liscenses. Might be a good idea to figure out who can legally get their cook on, and get them in on the deal.

5.- Fun and games. Ok we all know, anyone will do ANYTHING for a shitty prize. a T-shirt, a sticker, whatever. We should work some sort of contest in, besides the show and shine. Maybe a food eating contest, or some sort of obstacle course on a tricycle or other equally ridiculous apparatus. We'd have lines for a week with that. Another idea on this line that was mention in one of the other threads, and my personal favorite- SMASH A CAR. All we need is a beater. Don't matter if it runs, sure as hell isn't gonna be roadworthy when we're done with it. Charge a couple bucks a swing, extra swings for 10$, 20$ etc.... and hand em a sledge and some goggles. Might need a release form so we don't get sued, but we should be golden. Call a tow yard in advance and tell em we might need em to pick up a smashed car.

6.- Venue. We want BIG. Raiding a local park is probably a bad idea without some sort of permit...... plus it won't have the room. MAP would be a good spot, or if one of the larger clubs or someone has an in with a place we can use, that would be awesome. Wouldn't mind having exposure in a relatively central area, to draw in people that may not have heard about it.

7.- Music. Live band? Mebbe. DJ? Probably easier. We have contacts on that stuff too, so we should figure out what we can get crackin' with that.

8.-Silent auction. Another hairbrained scheme of mine. If we can get donatables from other folks, we can auction/raffles them off, and winar keeps said item. I can possibly scam some twinkies tickets.

9.- Shirts. We should get some shirt action. I'm a decent artist, but I know shit about photoshop, etc. So I'd need someone with some skillz to pay the billz to get some shirts together that we can sell. Maybe even sell them on the website pre-show at a discount, or something. Stickers could piggyback the shirts, and we have the stickers thing on lock.

10.- Poker run/cruise- great way to get some exposure before the show, and get people out and about. Also gives us time to set up before the crowd rolls in. Dan and I are tentatively in on a Corvette Club gimmick rallye, so we will be able to see how that works.

I'm sure i could wrangle up some classmates who would be willing to help with photos and possibly model. I know enough photo students/fashion/interior deisgn majors that i could see if they would be willing to help out for a good cause.

Also Tom if you want to go caravan-style down to Roch could do you, me, and James. I could park at your place and ride with you so HIS car gets driven back if Taya can't do it.

If we are in need of a grill for come cookage I can probably get the big one from my work. it is about 8 feet long and needs 2 tanks to run so there is plenty of room.

I like the idea of models, that could be interesting. Or at least people that want to take pics, etc etc. I'm sure we can use something like that.

Caravan- that's 3 of us on board. We only need like.... 40 more and I'll be happy. I wanna scare the state patrol.

That would be minty fresh. Now if we got someone stupid enough to stand behind the thing..........
