Any one done/gonna do this this spring?
Horrible idea. The disi motor is really proving to be weak. THe first guy to go big turbo blew his a few days after getting the turbo on. Rods are breaking putting holes in blocks it's ugly out there. I am sort of regreting my decision to get my ms3. I guess I will keep it close to stock and just do fuel mileage mods to it, I don't want to risk blowing it up with a big turbo.Or swapping the MS3 motor into a non-speed chassis![]()
So I take it you have a regular 3 and are thinking about a disi swap? If I were going to go with a fmic for the MS3 I would go with the turbo XS one it looks really big and well designed end tanks.Yea, most of you must not be aware of my project, or my history with trying to decide which way to get some more power (trade in, boost n' build, swap). Well the way things worked, I'm doing a swap, inspite the many nay-sayers I've come across. Being my hood is a little less bulgy then the speed, I doubt a TMIC is even an option, and the stock one is toast.
I guess I haven't heard of much loss of power, other then a story or two of the FMIC throwing some ECUs into gimp mode, but I got more digging to do at M3F about that issue. I had planned, at this point, to just go with a FMIC, and see if I had to get the AP, to get it to work right.
That's where my question comes in. All the FMIC kits I've see, incuding Cobb's (which I'm planning on getting), have the piping off the turbo to the IC going over the engine. I'm unsure if clearance is going to be an issue under my Mz3 hood. I'm hoping to see a kit of someone else just to get an idea if I might need some custom piping done.
These guys do have the upraged fuel pumps but no real engine management. Hopefully with the cobb ap it might fix some of the problems but who knows. At least I am waiting to mod till after my warranty so I will be able to see if a solution has been made before I mod.I'd be willing to bet that the people going big boost are neglecting fuel, and causing HUGE detonation. Gotta remember, tuning is as important as anything. With the DISI being what it is, it doesn't surprise me that people are nuking them left and right. Plus, if I want massive boost, i'll buy a DSM.
