Do you have proof the JDM models DON'T have Ford stamped on those same parts? Also, just because the part was made in a Ford plant does not mean it is any worse or any lower quality than if it were made in another plant to the same specifications.
I guess JDM was the wrong term to use there. I meant that I wanted to own a car made of all Japanese parts not a car assembled in Japan with US parts. I'm really not bashing the MS3 at all there are just a few problem areas with it. But other wise I love my car and would recommend it to others to buy.

Can you please back up these statements that this car is made with Ford parts? you keep repeating this, yet can't really name any actual parts. Are you saying Mazda is lieing about the parts content on the sticker?

ZZD is right, in the end it doesn't matter, because whereever the parts are made, they come together to make a superior car.

This just sounds like someone trying way to hard to turn this into the old hillbilly debate of Ford vs Chevy.

My window sticker for my MS3 says 95% parts came from Japan, that is all.

I mean, I guess they could import the parts from the US, assemble the car, and then export it back to the us...

My window sticker said 0% of the parts in my car came from the US or Canada.

wow, a car enthusiast doesnt have to hate a car because of its brand name and stereotyped reputation. The turbo balt is like the new fastest FWD car stock. the HHR SS would be a good comparison sorta, the HHR also set a record at the nurburgring with the fastest wagon or minisuv time. I talked to the GMPP engineers and the turbo balt is miles ahead of the supercharged one. stronger axels, new engine and piston design, tuned suspension etc. just because its competition to the ms3 doesnt mean you automatically have to hate the crap out of it... Ive sat in one and they are really nice actually. I still think the ms3 is more refined interior wise though.

The valve cover for sure says ford on it. From what I have read on the variouse forums the block says ford. The brake calipers are ford. I have seen many of the parts that I looked at by glancing under the hood say ford as well.

Believe me I wish it was the old mazda vs. honda beef here but I noticed that it looks like the ford/chevy thing is going on here.

The final paragraph.

"Cobalt SS is a lot of car for the money. The only problem is the competition -- specifically, the Mazdaspeed3. On paper, Cobalt matches up well with the 'Speed3, but the Mazda is more refined, better looking and more fun to drive. With its four doors and hatchback, it is also more useful on a day-to-day basis. You will also want to check out the Honda Civic Si and the Nissan Sentra SE-R. If you can step up closer to the $30,000 mark (or beyond), the Subaru WRX STi and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will reward your generosity with racetrack-ready performance that will challenge your ability to keep your driver's license. Personally, I'd spend my hard-earned dollars on the Mazdaspeed3."

I think this is a very good assesment of the situation. I agree personally I chose to buy the MS3 with my money. And if I were to do it over today with my $20,000 back in my hand I would still buy the MS3 over the balt. The only car that would temp me to go away from the MS3 right now would be the prius but I think I will wait for fully electric cars to hit the market instead of hoping on the hybrid bandwagon. But I will however give the balt it's fair credit for being the better performer.

yeah 2 door coupes not for me for a DD. The balt crowd is pissed about the tranny though. As without kryo, they say it can only handle 300hp safely. I know a guy with a custom turbo balt, 380hp but he kryo'd his tranny after blowing the lsd 3 times.

I would also get the ms3 again, love 4 doors and the hatch...need my room to haul stuff :)

i prefer the ms3, sure cobalt might be the new kid on the block, but we can all learn from the srt4, it was fucking great and fast, but doesnt hold up as well, only time will tell which car is the better one, i likr the exterior looks of the ms3, the interior(especially dans seats) and everything about it, ive seen a cobalt ss around here(my apartments) and the owner looks like a moron and has put the naked ladys that truckers are obsessed with stickers on the bottom of the windows so it looks retarded, and like hondas the drivers are fuckwads and have turned me off ever buying a honda, i fell its gonna be the same way with the cobalts

I dont understand why people are hating on a car because of the potential crowd that MAY drive these cars. Its like saying I wont own a Ferrari because the drivers are jerks... Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh.

na ferrari owners are stuck up pricks, just kidding, but in my opinion the driver makes the car, it takes it to the max and makes any car perfect, he knows its limits, etc etc, and honda drivers dont know their limits and think evrything that is honda made is fabulous and that its better than anything and always rev their cars that sound like a lawnmower of theirs against everybody

And I think thats a gross overstatement and generalization. :stupid2:

Truth of the matter is you're buying a car, you're not marrying all the other owners of the car or forced to join that community. The car should stand or fall entirely on its own merits, as the actions of others is completely irrelevant.

Yea, as it is with cars, the new ones are build to compete with the older models, and not vice versa. MS3 was made when pretty much just the SRT4 was around to compeat agaist in its market. So its no doubt the Coba was built with the MS3 performance numbers in sight. To bad numbers don't make a car, and preformance is only one of many factors that make a great car.

I think to most car fanatics, which I believe most people here are, we are looking for more then just a car when we buy a certain make and model. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really glad to be a part of car community filled with people I can click with. Be it none of this was around when I picked up my car, but it seems Mazda 3s in priticular attract a certain type of people, just like people who mod hondas are a certain type, and so on. Yes, I am using stereo types, and yes, I know, not everyone who mods a honda will fall into that stereo type. But stereo types are around for a reason, because they tend to be true for a major part of the community they represent. I don't know where I was going with this... lol so /rant

Wow! Is this the M3F Forums. Let's get all defensive about our Mazdas because another car may or may not give it a run for its money.

And bringing who drives the car and the stickers they place on said car is pointless. Adds nothing to the discussion. Do I not support the Twins and go to a Twins game because I see drunk morons say and do stupid things (i.e. throw batteries at former players)??? No. It's irrelevant to the team.

Yes, it's a Mazda site and yes we all love our Mazdas, but let's not become Mazda elitists who think no other car will ever touch ours and our Brand is superior because we haven't seen one with a lame sticker (cuz believe me it's out there somewhere) or because all Chevy's/Hondas suck.

And Mazda is part of a big automaker conglomerate, so yes parts will be shared amongst the brands, like the Volvo brakes on the MS3, but what difference does that make? We live in a global world where parts from all over the world are assembled to make any number of things.

Enjoy you car because you like it. And realize there will be other cars that can challenge it and others will have opinions that it is potentially better. Who cares? Just drive.
