Stupid and unrealistic discussion about "Which car is faster?"

Car "A"
2100lbs

Car "B"

600hp @ 6500rpms


Both cars have identical transmissions. Both cars are geared to do precisely 200mph. Both cars are identical in EVERY way other than motor and the rear end necessary to hit 200mph.


Assume bother cars have a fairly wide powerband (Turbo cars), just that Car "A" will have it shifted upwards as a side effect from the drastically higher rev limit.

Which car hits 200mph in a shorter amount of time? Yes, i realize that it's hard to tell without a fully dyno graph, but too bad. Neither car actually exists, so i don't have graphs.

There would be no way of knowing without Dyne graphs. Because what if car B drops all of its power after peak.

Here we go again... (Last time i asked this question, it turned into a shitshow.)

There are no dyno graphs. ASSume that neither motor magically hits a wall and goes to 0 HP at 6501 and 8501rpms magically, respectively.


Figure a solid 1000rpms or so of usable power above peak. I'll make it easy on you. Car A is rev limited to 9500rpms. Car B is rev limited to 7500rpms.

Also will make it easy: Car A is going to have shorter gearing because of the higher RPM limit (Remember, both cars geared to exactly 200mph.)

I'd say Car B. While going those higher speeds in the higher gear you can hold it in 5th or 6th and it'll keep in the torque band to push it to 200.

The gearing difference is going to be pretty drastic, which would make "time to peak power" pretty similar. The two motors may free-rev in neutral at the same speed, but that's not relevant while actually in gear.

Both cars have a 5spd, identical transmission. Both geared to do exactly 200mph at rev limit in top gear.

Math says 3.55 rear end in Car B, 4.5 rear end in Car A. And again... both cars make 600hp at peak.
