The site was attacked.

The site was pretty muched attacked. Don't know why or who yet, but there was a crazy amount of traffic bombing one specific thread on the site (the autometer gauges for sale thread) and it almost killed the main server this site is on. The amout of requests was a crazy number and thankfully we have a great host (scheides on here) that has cleaned it up, worked some magic, 'blocked' the IP, and overall got us back up and running uber fast.

Basically the server load is normally around .2 to .5 and earlier today was near 1.0 to 1.9 where 1.0 = 1 full server load. The highest he had ever seen was 99, this got up to 230, which is just insane.

Hopefully this is the end of it, if not, at least you know what's going on.

Have any ideas as to what happened yet? Is it possible it was just a computer malfunction or was it definitely a malicious type of thing?

I should be able to give Ashley a wedgie or something since I also have to sift through and delete just over 5000 e-mails for database errors because of this. That was a rude awakeing. LOL :D

Hmm, that's a new way to prevent surfing at work... DoS attacks on any websites an employee dwells on for more than a few minutes! hehe...
