    DESCRIPTION

Some customers may experience a leather steering wheel that is torn or coming apart at the stitching, which is due to the stitching of the leather steering wheel not being strong enough. The stitching has now been improved.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

    REPAIR PROCEDURE

    1. Verify concern.

    2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 06-14 STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.

WARNING: Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings before handling the airbag module. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 08-10 AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE PRECAUTIONS.

    3. Remove the two screws from the back of the steering wheel, then release the fastener from the front surface of the steering wheel and remove the center cover.

    4. Loosen the other two screws on the back of the steering wheel, then remove the left and right covers.

NOTE: Remove the ground wire from the switch cover and the ground wire screw.

    5. Install a modified part and assembly in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE: DO NOT allow the switch harness to get caught between the cover and steering wheel. Route the wire harness like it was before.

    6. Install the steering wheel with a new bolt. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 06-14 STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.

    7. Verify repair.
